🇸🇰 Slovakia vs 🇽🇰 Kosovo Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips | WC 2026 Playoff | March 26, 2026
Nobody gave Kosovo a chance. The youngest nation in European football, FIFA members only since 2016, with a squad built from the Albanian diaspora across Europe. Yet here they are – in the World Cup playoff semifinals – and with Vedat Muriqi and Edon Zhegrova causing problems for defences across Europe, they are not just making up the numbers.
Slovakia, meanwhile, are a well-organised, tactically disciplined side with real quality in Stanislav Lobotka – one of Napoli’s most important players – and experienced goalkeeper Martín Dúbravka. But Milan Škriniar’s muscle injury is a significant blow to their defensive backbone. This is more competitive than the odds suggest.

Head-to-Head Record
| Date | Home | Score | Away | Competition |
| 2023 | Kosovo | 1–2 | Slovakia | Euro Qualifier |
| 2022 | Slovakia | 1–0 | Kosovo | Nations League |
| 2022 | Kosovo | 2–1 | Slovakia | Nations League |
| 2019 | Kosovo | 1–0 | Slovakia | Euro Qualifier |
| 2018 | Slovakia | 3–1 | Kosovo | Nations League |
The head-to-head is remarkably balanced – each side has won twice in the last five meetings. Kosovo beat Slovakia in Pristina in 2019 and won their Nations League meeting in 2022. This is not a comfortable fixture for Slovakia.
Team Form & Key Players
Slovakia under Francesco Calzona have developed a cohesive system based on Lobotka’s control from midfield. The Napoli midfielder reads the game at a level above anyone else in this squad – his positioning, passing range and ability to break up opposition attacks make him Slovakia’s most important player. Dúbravka in goal is Premier League quality. Ondrej Duda and Ivan Schranz provide the goal threat from wide positions.
The concern is Milan Škriniar. The PSG defender – a former captain and leader of the defensive line – is doubtful with a muscle injury. Without Škriniar, Slovakia’s central defensive partnership is significantly weaker, and Kosovo have players capable of exploiting that vulnerability.
Kosovo have three genuine European-quality players. Vedat Muriqi – Mallorca’s main striker – is physical, powerful and excellent in the air. Edon Zhegrova at Lille is one of Ligue 1’s most direct and unpredictable attackers. Kristjan Asllani at Inter Milan – the Italy-born Albanian with dual nationality who chose Kosovo – is a genuine Serie A regular. Three injury setbacks have hit the squad: Rrahmani (hamstring), Jashari (Achilles) and Avdullahu (adductor) are all out. Those are significant losses in key positions.

Our Analysis
Kosovo’s injury crisis changes this match. Rrahmani, Jashari and Avdullahu are all significant losses – particularly Jashari, who is one of their most technically gifted midfielders. Without him, Kosovo’s ability to control possession and create space for Muriqi and Zhegrova is reduced.
Slovakia’s Lobotka will dominate the midfield battle against a depleted Kosovo engine room. Dúbravka will be tested by Muriqi’s aerial presence but has the experience to handle it. And in a single-leg match, Kosovo’s defensive vulnerabilities – exposed against stronger opposition – might be punished.
The home crowd in Bratislava, Lobotka’s control and Kosovo’s injury problems point toward Slovakia. But Kosovo have beaten Slovakia before and Muriqi alone is capable of changing a match.
This is a tight, tactical game. Under 2.5 Goals at 1.60 is the foundation of any bet here. Slovakia should edge through but it will not be comfortable.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.60 Smart Play: Slovakia Win @ 1.90 Our Predicted Score: Slovakia 1–0 Kosovo
