Mayor of Waterford City, Cllr. Jim D’Arcy, has congratulated Waterford’s Leaving Cert students on their exam. success.
Paying tribute to the students and also to their families and teachers, he described the Leaving Cert as "a test of knowledge, preparation and hard work".
The mayor said he hoped the recent school leavers went on to achieve their full potential and
encouraged them to explore the many options that are now available.
"There are more opportunities available than ever before in terms of higher and further education and I encourage all school leavers, whatever their results, to explore the possibilities best suited to their skills and abilities. While many young people will have secured their preferred options, there will be others who are disappointed. However, there are many chances available to re-join education at any stage in life and I hope that our students consider their options carefully."
The mayor concluded by saying he hoped the well-deserved celebrations were peaceful and safe, and by wishing the students well in this next phase of their lives.
