Rain fails to dampen Spraoi's exuberance
Wednesday, 8th August 2012

Despite the at times inclement weather the 20th Spraoi Festival in Waterford last weekend attracted tens of thousands of visitors and locals whose exuberance was only surpassed by the excellence and magic of Spraoi.
The People's Park was absolutely thronged on Friday and Saturday nights and everyone was in good humour. The organisation by a small group of professionals and an army of volunteers ensured everything went off without a hitch and Spraoi Director, TV Honan paid tribute to everyone for their hard work and dedication. He particularly mentioned the fact that the weather forced them to move from the Park on Saturday morning to the city centre.
The Parade on Saturday night was an oustanding success with thousands of onlookers entering into the spirit of the occasion.
Richie Hayes, performing with Opus Pocus gave a powerful performance on Saturday night.
The Saw Doctors' performance on the Plaza drew an audience of thousands who thoroughly enjoyed their performance. This was followed by a splendid fireworks display over the Quays which drew ‘oohs' and ‘aahs' in abundance for an appreciative audience.
However, as TV Honan points out the cost of staging such an international event which helps the local economy is a costly affair. As they look forward to their 21st anniversary celebrations next year the financial support of the people of Waterford is greatly appreciated.
