New centralised grant application system to benefit Waterford students
Waterford City Cllr Seamus Ryan has welcomed the introduction of the new central online system for student grant applications stating that the new system should be more streamlined and efficient than the current system
"Up to now , students and parents in Waterford had to apply to their local authority or VEC for a grant. The process was not centralised and each authority or VEC had their own criteria and application process. This new system, SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) will process all applications and distribute payments to students for the coming academic year.
"The application process is quick and easy to use and should see an end to the long delays encountered by students in the past where approval and payment often took a long time. In future payments will be made electronically on a monthly basis throughout the academic year. SUSI is run by City of Dublin VEC where 65 staff will operate the new system. Not only will the whole process be more beneficial to students, it will actually save the taxpayer approximately €5 million in efficiencies once the transition is complete.
"I would like to reiterate the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn's advice to students and their parents to apply on-line as soon as they can through the website at http://www.studentfinance.ie

There is little about summit meeting that the …
