Waterford -Tramore cycle route

€600,000 funding for Waterford-Tramore cycle route Labour T.D. for Waterford, Ciara Conway is giving a warm welcome to funding of almost 600 thousand euro that's being made available for the provision of a cycling route from Waterford City to Tramore. "This is wonderful news, especially as we get ready to launch National Bike Week here in Waterford on June 16th,” said Ciara Conway T.D. "Cycling is certainly growing in popularity here in Waterford. There are always cyclists making the most of the Waterford Ring Road, and the stretch between there and Tramore is a very popular route.” "I'm delighted to hear about this announcement of 599,500 euro from my colleague, the Minister for Public Transport, Alan Kelly. The funding will be put to good use, building a high-quality route of around 10 kilometres between Waterford City and Tramore.” "This will of course be of huge benefit to local cyclists, as well as helping to strengthen the case for Waterford as an ideal cycle tourism location, which is bound to aid job creation.” The funding follows a commitment in the programme for Government to continue National Cycle Policy Framework. A competitive funding scheme was launched in March 2012 to fund Local Authorities to deliver cycling routes around the country which could act as both transport corridors and recreational and tourism amenities. The national launch of Bike Week kicks off in Waterford on Saturday 16 June, with a mass cycle from Dungarvan to Waterford, with cycling workshops along the way.
