Welcome News for Drivers at Ballybeg/Lacken Road Junction

Tom Murphy P.C .,Fianna Fail activist in Area South, welcomes at long last work commencing on the Kilbarry/ Lacken /Ballybeg Drive road.

"During my time as an elected member of Waterford City Council I first brought this junction to the attention of the Council at a meeting on December 9th 2002 when I stated that the provision of a roundabout was the solution to alleviate traffic congestion in this area and this proposal was agreed by the members at that meeting.

"Even though this work was agreed almost ten years ago I am delighted to now see work commencing on the opening of a road from the Lacken Road onto the main Kilbarry Road and the provision of a roundabout which will make for easier access for all in Lacken Wood, Lacken road, Ballybeg, Kilbarry and Templar's Hall areas who use this road. We have been very lucky over the years that a serious accident has not occurred at this junction but when this work is completed it will be safer for drivers and pedestrians alike. I also welcome the upgrading and widening of the

Kilbarry Road out to the Six Cross Roads roundabout.

"I have been in touch with City Council regarding my concerns at the closure of the old road from the Lacken Road past the landfill site to this new junction. This could facilitate the illegal parking of caravans and dumping on this closed road, because this land would effectively be waste land or open space, and I call on the council to take the necessary precautions to monitor and ensure that this doesn't occur and lead to difficulties for the people living in the surrounding areas".

It might not sound like earth shattering news but if it does happen then it could be one of the most significant things that this Government has done since it took office. Any money that is given over to education is a …
