Talk Talk Donation

The sudden closure of Talk Talk’s contact centre in Waterford that was announced late last year came as a shock to the nearly 600 people working there. Employee representative, Tom Phelan, says "It was a difficult time for us working there, especially because it was so unexpected and fast, but we got great support and encouragement from many quarters, particularly from the people of Waterford. We wanted to recognise and reward this support somehow. Workers at Talk Talk had a history of participating in community and charity events, which the company had always facilitated, so it was felt that making donations to a range of local organisations would be a good way to bow out and to thank the people of Waterford for their support. He added: "The Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre was put forward by employees as one of the groups to benefit in recognition of the great work that they do." Commenting on the donation, Project Co-ordinator at the Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, Heather Kiely said "this donation couldn’t have come at a better time. Family Resource Centres are struggling to deal with funding cuts and Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre is no exception. This donation highlights the generous spirit of all those involved, especially in the face of uncertainty regarding the future ahead for many employees." She went on to say that the money would be put to good use in supporting those most marginalised within communities and thanked the former workers for their support.
