Explore Waterford’s Woodlands with the Native Woodland Trust
The Native Woodland Trust is Ireland’s fastest growing woodlands charity and is now running a series of events in and around Waterford City, exploring the City’s woodlands and wild places. Join us on Saturday 28th April on our first outing where we will be exploring the hidden wonders of Ballinakill Woods at Maypark, five minutes from the city centre. This event is free of charge and will include a guided tree walk of the beautiful broadleaved woods that run along the banks of the Suir at Ballinakill.
The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the protection of Ireland’s ancient woods and to the planting of new native woodlands. We have recently started a community woodlands initiative in Waterford City with plans to plant and develop a community woodland within the city for the use of the whole community. It is a perfect time of year for spotting spring woodland flowers as well as other woodland wildlife such as woodland wild birds and maybe event an otter in the River. So come along to Ballinakill on Saturday to find out all about the activities of the Native Woodland Trust and to enjoy the natural treasures Waterford City has to offer. All are welcome!
The event will start at 12:00 on Saturday 28th April and the meeting point will be at Ardkeen Shopping Centre. It might not sound like earth shattering news but if it does happen then it could be one of the most significant things that this Government has done since it took office.
