Check that you are registered to vote

Wednesday, 31st August 2011

With preparations under way by the supporters of the various candidates for the Presidential Election to be held on 27th October next, Cllr. Jack Walsh, The Labour Party,  is urging people to make sure that they are on the Register of Electors to avoid disappointment on polling day.

"People can check on-line at http://www.checktheregister.ie to see if they are registered to vote" Cllr. Walsh stated.  Copies of the register are also available in Post Offices, Libraries and in City Hall. People can check the Register of Electors in any of these places to see if their name is included.

"At every election people turn up to vote but find that they are not on the register for a number of reasons" Cllr. Walsh said. "This causes great frustration and can be very upsetting for people".

"There is still time for people to ensure that they can vote by getting on to the Supplement to the Register which came into effect on 15th Feb. 2011 last" Cllr Walsh explained.

If  a person did not get a vote in the last General Election or if they reach 18 years before the 27th of October 2011, then they should go on-line at http://www.checktheregister.ie and download an Application form (RFA2) for inclusion in the Supplement to the Register of Electors or they can get a form from City Hall, The Mall.

Field workers for City Council are at present distributing forms in the city to update the Register of Electors which will come into force on 15th Feb. 2012.  They will also have application forms for the Supplementary Register if people require them.

The completed Application Form (RFA2) should be brought to the local Garda Station for stamping and then be sent to M. McKnight, Waterford City Council, City Hall, The Mall, Waterford. For further information people in the City should call 051-849917 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Once a person's name is included in the Supplement to the present register they will be able to vote in the Presidential Election and the three referenda that are due to take place on the 27th October.

As a nation we are obsessed by the weather and its entirely understandable. It is so variable and in such a constant flux that …
