Tributes pour in for Cllr John Carey

Tributes have been pouring into City Hall following the death of Waterford City and County Council Cllr John Carey of who passed away over the weekend.

Waterford City and County Council has opened a Book of Condolences at City Hall for anyone who wishes to pay their respects.

"It’s a sad day for Waterford. John was a great friend to all of his colleagues on the Council regardless of party affiliation," Councillor Declan Doocey, Mayor of the City and County of Waterford said. The Mayor extended his sympathies to John’s wife Ann, his sons Sean, Kieran and Liam, his daughters Nancy and Sharon, his family and to his constituents. A native of Passage East John was regarded as a most hardworking and honourable individual who enjoyed the support of the people of the area for many years as an elected member of the Fine Gael party. Council members held a special meeting on Tuesday morning at 9.30 a.m. and passed a vote of sympathy to John’s family and also agreed to attend the funeral as a body robed.
