Shortly after 20.00pm on Sunday July 29th, a fire broke out in the wood drying section of Smartply's manufacturing facility at Belview Port, Waterford. However, it was quickly and safely extinguished with the assistance of local fire services.

Due to the localised nature of the fire, which occurred in the plant's wood drying area, only a small section of the building's wall cladding and roof suffered damage.Electrical components and cabling were affected by water ingress, but this was due to the effective deployment of fire suppression systems.

The fire did not spread to any other part of the plant.

A clean-up operation of the impacted area is currently in progress and it is expected that full production will resume later this evening.
