Free Inter Rail tickets for young people

A scheme has been announced this morning which will offer 140 free Inter Rail tickets to 18 years olds across Ireland. The aim of scheme is to get young people interested in Europe. Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune has welcomed the scheme saying it will help young Irish people learn about and see other EU countries. Ms Clune said: "This is a fantastic initiative which is aiming to encourage young people to see more of Europe. There is so much to learn across Europe and a scheme such as this is very welcome in helping young people as they learn and develop." Ms Clune added: "The scheme is being introduced on a pilot basis and if successful will be extended. Across the EU 15,000 18 year olds will be offered the opportunity to travel between one and four countries over the summer as part of the scheme." Anyone who is 18 can apply for the tickets online next week on the European Youth Portal. Online applications will be open from 12th to 26th June 2018. Selection will be by a jury of European Commision officials and winners will be notified in early July. To apply this year a person must be 18 years old on 1st July 2018.
