Fianna Fail to hold Sean O’Rourke Commemoration on Sunday next Jason Murphy

Waterford City Fianna Fáil is hosting the Sean O’Rourke Commemoration on Sunday 13th May at 5pm. The event will take place at the Celtic Cross erected in Sean O’Rourkes memory opposite the Holy Cross Restaurant, Butlerstown, Co. Waterford. Keynote address will be given by a prominent FF spokesperson.

Sean O’Rourke lived on John’s Hill Waterford and was one of four brothers, two of whom emigrated to the USA and he and his brother remained at home.  Sean O’Rourke was an uncle of Mrs. Mary Lowe, South Parade, who will be a special guest at this event, along with her family.

The Sean O’Rourke Fianna Fáil Cumann which covers the area of Ballytruckle/John’s Park was named in his honour.

On May 1921 Sean was on patrol/guard duty in Butlerstown in the region of the Holy Cross pub.  He was set upon by British forces

Cove to Cove along the Stradbally Coast

The May outing of the Waterford Branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust takes place on Sunday May 13th at Stradbally Co Waterford. The ecology of the coves will be a topic as will the flora of roadside verges. The walk will take about 2.5 hours and is suitable for all ages. Dogs may be taken on the lead. All welcome. Referendum Commission launches its Public Information Campaign

The Referendum Commission has launched its public information campaign to explain the Fiscal Stability Treaty and to urge people throughout the State to vote. The Commission Chairperson Judge Kevin Feeney said that its factual Guide to the Treaty would be delivered to all homes between May 8th and May 18th, and that the people of Waterford City and County would receive it during that time.

The South East Region of Active Retirement Ireland organised a trip to Dublin Zoo on Wednesday 1st May 2012. Despite the rain over 100 brave members of the following ARAs attended: Comeragh Waterford, Cahir & Tipperary town, Thomastown & Johnstown Co Kilkenny, New Ross Co Wexford & Leighlinbridge co Carlow. except for New Ross all members travelled by train. New Ross ARA had the largest number 39 members who travelled by bus.

On arrival at the Zoo they had tea and coffee & scones which were very  enjoyable. Then they split into groups walking at their leisure enjoying the animals and the many changes to the zoo since their last visit. They expressed their thanks to Susan O Connor, Chairperson of S. Referendum: Vote Yes for business - Sean Kelly MEP

Ireland South MEP, Sean Kelly, is calling on his constituents to vote Yes in the Stability Treaty Referendum in order to boost investor confidence and business opportunities in Ireland.

The Fine Gael MEP says the outcome of the referendum on Thursday, May 31st will be keenly observed by the business community both at home and abroad:

Genzyme Announces Regulatory Approvals of Expanded Waterford Manufacturing Plant

Genzyme, a Sanofi company has announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have approved a second suite for filling and finishing product at its Waterford, Ireland manufacturing plant.

With this approval, Genzyme has nearly doubled its ability to fill and finish Myozyme® and Lumizyme® (alglucosidase alfa) produced at the 4000 litre bioreactor scale. Genzyme will also begin the process to secure FDA and EMA approvals to fill and finish additional products in the second suite, with the long-term goal to use the Waterford site as a filling and finishing platform across its portfolio of products.

Waterford companies invited to apply for website development fund

Waterford companies are being invited to apply for a website development fund offering €10,000 worth of support to ten companies nationwide. The IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the managed registry for Ireland’s official Internet address .ie, has announced it will extend its €100,000 e-commerce website development fund, called OPTIMISE, for the second year running. Launched by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, T.D., the OPTIMISE Fund was established in 2011 to mark the tenth anniversary of IEDR and raise awareness of the extent to which small businesses in Ireland remain slow to harness the revenue potential of the Internet.

Open to owners of Irish SMEs and micro-businesses with a .ie website, the OPTIMISE Fund will provide ten recipients with €10,000 worth of consultation, training and e-commerce development support services to begin

Waterford students to take on the teachers for GOAL

Transition year students throughout Waterford are being challenged to ‘take on the teachers’ as part of a new annual multi-sport challenge taking place during May in aid of humanitarian agency, GOAL.

Launched nationwide the ‘GOAL Sports Challenge’ provides all school-goers - from junior infants right up to Leaving Certificate level – with the opportunity to compete against each other in a wide range of popular sports and games. Teachers young and old are also being encouraged to participate by either taking part in as many events as they can, or by arranging and supervising games for some of the younger children.
