RNLI Chief Executive visits Helvick Lifeboat Station

Paul Boissier, RNLI Chief Executive, paid a brief visit to the Helvick Lifeboat Station recently. Accompanied by Area Fundraising Manager Emma Gibson, and Training Divisional Inspector Owen Medland, they met with Station Management and some members of the crew and fundraising committee. Hon Helvick Lifeboats Operations Manager (LOM) Ian Walsh welcomed the visitors and spoke about the operations and future plans of the station. Hon Fundraising Chairman Oliver Clancy highlighted the splendid work of the fundraising committee. Paul Boissier expressed his appreciation for that and his admiration for the courage and bravery of the lifeboat crew who are on call 24-7-365. Paul Boissier was presented with a fine piece of Criostal na Rinne (Ring Crystal) specially inscribed and cut by proprietor Eamonn Ó Turraoin who serves as Hon Deputy Lifeboat Operations Manager and Lifeboat Training Co-ordinator with the Helvick Lifeboat
Polish school in Waterford celebrate 5 years

On Saturday, October 13th, the Polish Saturday School in Waterford has celebrated its 5th anniversary, and during the celebrations the first class pupils have been officially accepted into the school.
The celebrations started on 12pm with a Holy Mass St. Paul's Church, and afterwards all children walked to the main auditorium of the St. Paul's Community College, where the school has been located for last 5 years.
Few minutes after 1pm, when all students from 19 classes sat down in the auditorium, the official part of the celebrations was started. At the beginning one of the teachers, Dominika Sikora, has spoken briefly about the school's history and its achievements.

In a combined effort to get Waterford citizens reacquainted with their City Centre, the joint bodies of Waterford Chamber, Waterford City Council, and Waterford City Centre Retailers will create a six week Friday Shopping Promotional Bonanza starting on Friday 19th October and running for six consecutive Fridays until 23rd November. Culminating with the switching on of the Christmas Lights by Mayor Jim D’Arcy.
The "Free From 3" promotion will offer shoppers visiting the City centre a choice of special retail promotions including a limited amount of free off street car parking as well as discounted car parking on The Quay. Thousands expected at Macra na Feirme annual conference

Thousands of members are set to descend on Waterford as the Macra annual conference (or Rally) is taking place next weekend (October 26th-29th) in the Tower Hotel. The annual conference, supported by local company, Glanbia, incorporates the Young Farmers’ conference as well as the national finals of a number of our competitions.
The conference will be officially opened on the Friday (26th) by Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, at 7.30pm which is followed by the final of the Irish Farmer’s Journal Know Your Ag quiz.
On Saturday (27th), the Young Farmers' conference will take place in the Woodlands Hotel, Waterford City. The theme of this year's conference is "Young Farmers: The Opportunity of a Lifetime" and will address the potential for young farmers. Musgrave MarketPlace invests €2 Million in new Waterford Cash & Carry site
Musgrave Wholesale Partners today officially opened their new MarketPlace cash & carry outlet at a new site on Kilbarry Road, Waterford. E2 million has been invested in the new outlet bringing Musgrave's total investment in its MarketPlace network to E10 million to-date, with an additional E3 million to be invested in branch revamps over the next three years.
The new 56,000 square foot outlet employs 70 staff, making it the largest cash & carry in the south-east of Ireland, with over 15,000 products in stock.

Irish Wildlife Trust October Outing

Sunday October 21 is the date to mark in your diary for a wonderful woodland walk and conversation with the Waterford Irish Wildlife Trust. And Faithlegg Demesne and Woods is the venue starting at 2.30 pm from the main car park at Faithlegg House Hotel. This is a brisk walk mostly on the flat but with a gentle hill section over firm terrain but with occasional sections of uneven ground. Good walking shoes or boots required. It is family friendly and dogs on the lead are welcome. Learn about our fascinating woodland ecology with a little bit of local history. Walk leader is Ray McGrath. All welcome. Public meeting in Tramore

The Campaign against Household and Water Tax will hold a public meeting in the Grand Hotel, Tramore, at 8pm this Thursday, the 18th October.
With 700,000 Homes representing almost one and a half million adults refusing to register or pay this odious tax, speakers Clare Daly TD ULA, Ind Cllr Dick Roch and local Activist Eddie Walsh will discuss why we should maintain the boycott and refuse to be intimidated.
This meeting is open to all, and there will be plenty of time for questions from the floor.

Waterford City Council Votes Unanimously In Favour Of Marriage Equality
Marriage Equality welcomed news that Waterford City Council unanimously passed a motion in support of civil marriage for same sex couples. The council joins Dublin City Council, who passed a similar motion in September; Cork and Belfast City Councils, who passed similar motions in June; as well as Omagh, Down, Moyle, Newry and Magherafelt District Councils who passed motions during the summer months.
"This is a wonderful step by Waterford City Council to raise awareness of this important issue at a local level.
