Three in four young people using online service report psychological distress
The Inspire Ireland Insights Report 2012, examining attitudes and behaviour related to youth mental health and online support, was launched recently by Mr Jerry Buttimer, T.D., Chairman of the Oireachtas Health Committee. With three quarters (75%) of those surveyed indicating that they are dealing with moderate or severe psychological distress, the report explores the increasingly critical role that online resources have in supporting young people when they go through tough times.
Findings were based on the annual user-profile survey of visitors to Inspire Ireland’s flagship programme, ReachOut.com together with a sentiment analysis of all commentary on the site from June 2011 – June 2012. The most frequently commented upon issue were depression (28%) and anxiety (16%), followed by other issues

Deise innovator named Ernst & Young Industry Entrepreneur Of The Year, 2012
Tramore-native and CEO of Digiweb Group, Colm Piercy was named as the 2012 Ernst & Young Industry Entrepreneur Of The Year at a prestigious Gala Awards Ceremony held in Dublin last Thursday night.
The awards ceremony, which took place in City West Hotel, was also attended by Minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton, T.D. and an assembled audience of 1,300 people that included many former winners, alumni and other luminaries from Ireland’s entrepreneurial and business community.
Piercy was amongst 24 finalists from across the island of Ireland that made it to the competitive final stages of the 2012 Programme and one of eight shortlisted for this year’s Industry Category.

FAB Waterford to host Small Business Supports Seminar

FAB Waterford will host a seminar for small and medium size business owners showcasing who and how the small business supports bodies can assist in the setting up and in the running of a small business.
The event will take place on Thursday, November 1 at 5.30pm at The Tower Hotel, Waterford.
The seminar will offer SMEs tips and information on what varying bodies are in place for support and assistance and how to access this support.

Younger voters showing strong support for Children's Referendum in Ward 2
"There is huge support for the Children's Referendum in Ward 2 (Waterford City East), especialy amongst younger voters" according to Cllr. Jack Walsh, The Labour Party. Cllr. Jack Walsh is confident that the Referendum will get a very strong endorsment based of the feedback he is getting from voters. "As our campaing is rolling out across the ward the positive response is getting stronger, people know how import this referendum is to children" Cllr. Jack Walsh said.

Minister to launch plans for the Development of Kilmacthomas Union Workhouse
On Thursday 8th of November at 5.45, Mr Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and The Gaeltacht, will unveil plans for the development of the Union Workhouse building. The launch takes place in the magnificent Union Workhouse itself, which has a powerful presence in the landscape of the Kilmacthomas area.
The building is already home to Workhouse Studios which provides professional visual artists and designers with an environment which supports and promotes the set up of small craft businesses. The members live in the village of Kilmacthomas and have been welcomed and supported by the local community.

Tramore Mayor concerned at plans for WRH
"I am deeply worried about the recent uncertainty generated in hospital plans for the WRH complex", states Tramore Mayor Joe Conway.

Arc Adoption Calls for a "Yes" Vote on November 10th

Merger will bring real benefits say FG City Councillors
The unification of city and county Waterford local authority will bring real benefits to the City say the Fine Gael Councillors.
Cllr. John Cummins said that "An enlarged metropolitan city area including areas such as Tramore, Dunmore and Passage East will give a great shot in the arm to a city that has been struggling in population terms over the last decade". "Against a national average of 8% population growth Waterford City has only managed growth of 2.2% since 2005. Over 46% of the working population of Waterford city live outside the city administrative area.
