
Joe Gough at European Masters
Once again Joe Gough West Waterford AC is back in action this week end at a major Masters Track and Field Championships. He travels to Ismir in Turkey for the European Championships and runs in the 800 metres over 60 final on Saturday morning next at 9.10 am and goes in to the race with the fastest time of the fifteen entered from 14 different countries.
Muster ( B) Juvenile Championships
On Sunday next the final track and field fixture of the season will be the Munster (B) juvenile track and field championships in Templemore for boys and girls under 9 to 16.The programme begins at 11 am and full timetable on Munster athletics website.
Genzyme 5 Miles Run and Walk
The Annual Genzyme run and walk over 5 miles takes place this Friday August 29 th in aid of Multiple Sclerosis Society. The walk is at 6.30pm followed by the run at 7 pm, you can enter on total timing.ie and entries on the evening from 6 pm at Genzyme Factory Old Kilmeaden Road on the outskirts of Waterford City and the race starts nearby
Final Race of Summer Series
280 competed in the 11 th Annual Glaxosmithkline 5 miles road race in Dungarvan on Friday last the final race in the Ger Wyley Sports/Skins Series. First home was Philip Harty West Waterford in 25 minutes 20 seconds,Trevor Power Waterford was second in 26.00 and Rory Moloney,West Waterford was third in 26.07.Sylvia Malone Waterford won the ladies section in 30.30, Sinead Mansfield West Waterford was second in 31.42 and Clotilde Fitzgibbon Grange/Fermoy was third in 31.50.To celebrate the 20 th year of the Series Ger Wyley put up a holiday voucher to be drawn among all finishers and Clare Fitzpatrick was the winner. The following were the category winners. Men Over 40 John Malone Youghal, O/45 Jim Baldwin Waterford O/50 Ray Hahesy West Waterford, O/55 Neilus Ahearn Midleton AC,O/60 Maurice Tobin Grange Fermoy AC Junior Barry Keane Waterford AC Women.Over 35 Kate Wall Clonmel AC O /40 Diane Behan Waterford O/45 Liz Nolan Waterford AC 0/50 Una Uí Mhuirthe Ind O/55 Ann Fitzgerald Waterford AC, Junior Ciara Burke Ind. The proceeds of the race went to Irish Hospice Foundation.The overall series winners were Kevin Kenneally West Waterford and Martina Dwyer Carrick on Suir.
Community Games
At the National Community Games finals in Athlone there were no medals for Waterford but there were a few noteworthy performances .Cory Scanlon made the final of 80 m u 8, Cathal Scanlon final of u 14 javelin, and the under 13 mixed relay team of Maeve Daly, Emily Casey, Sean Hickey and Tireoghan Flynn also made the final
