Mixed League

Section E

Dunmore 1 were beaten 5-2 by Kilmacthomas in the final league match on Wednesday 5th March, winning only the Ladies Singles and Third Mixed games. Dunmore 1 will now face Drangan in the Section E semi final with Dunmore having home advantage. The winners will play Kilmacthomas in the final. Dunmore Team: Jemma Fitzpatrick (C), Bernie Maher (Sub), Mary Ryan (Sub), Jackie Dunne, Barry Cantwell and Pat Chapman.

Section F

Dunmore 2 beat Waterford 4-3 at home in the final league match on Monday 3rd March. Team: Colin Collison (C), Mick Kennedy, Greville Madden, Loretta Kennedy, Mary Ryan (Sub) and Jeanne McNamara. Dunmore 2 will now play Touraneena at home in the Section F semi final on Thursday 20th March.

Section G

Dunmore 3 lost 4-3 to Rathgormack in the final round of the league. Team: David Flynn (C), David O'Leary, Ciaran Harrington, Sarah Warner, Oonagh Drohan (Sub) and Iris Graham (Sub). This team will now play Lismore away in the Section G semi final. Date to be confirmed.

County Championships Finals Night

The highlight of the Waterford County Badminton season took place on Tuesday 10th March in Cappoquin when the finals of the Men's and Ladies' Singles, Mean's and Ladies Double and Mixed Doubles were played at all grades. Nine club members from Dunmore took part and the results were as follows:

Ladies Singles – Jemma Fitzpatrick won the Section E title beating Eileen Keoghan from Kilmacthomas in a tough three-setter. Loretta Kennedy lost out to Fiona Kiely also of Kilmactomas in the Section F decider.

Ladies Doubles – Loretta Kennedy playing with Sheena Wilkinson from Tourin was beaten by Natalie Brown and Rachel Walsh from Kilmacthomas. Lillian Healy and Grainne Maher received a walkover in the Section G final.

Men's Doubles – Peter Fleming and Anthony Feicks qualified for the Section D final but were unfortunately unable to compete.

Mixed Doubles – David Flynn and Sarah Warner won the Section G title beating the Lady Lane partnership of Callum Thomas and Jo Murphy. Colin Collison played in the Section F final with Fiona Kiely from Kilmactomas but lost out to the stronger pairing of Paul Casey (Lismore) and Sheena Wilkinson (Tourin).

The winners will now go forward to represent Waterford in the Munster Badminton Championships.

Well done to all involved and thanks to the members of the county committee for all the hard work they put into organising the competitions.
