Robin Kelly of WRC wins the pink jersey for best sprinter at Suir Valley 3 Day
The bank holiday period was all about the old and the new for Waterford Racing Club. Up and coming 17 year old Pierre De Leastar took a hard fought second place in the Wexford League on Thursday night last after riding in a 3 man breakaway for almost the entire race. Pierre's fantastic performance was bookended by strong results from in-form veteran campaigner Robin Kelly who is currently 4th in the Irish Cycling ranking's. Robin was in action in the Tour of Connacht the weekend before last where two third place finishes and a second place on the final stage saw him climb his way up the infamous windy gap in Co. Mayo to second place overall on General Classification, a mere 3 seconds away from taking the overall Yellow Jersey.
This weekend whilst the rest of Waterford was enjoying the Spraoi, Robin was part of a strong Waterford Racing Club team including Mark Gunning, Shane O'Donoghue and Pierre De Leastar which competed at the Suir Valley International 3 day race. The goal was to give some of our young blood experience of top class racing whilst working for Robin to win the pink sprinter's jersey which he held for 2 days in 2009 in this event before losing it on the very last day. This time out he wasn't to be denied, taking over the sprint classification on stage 2 and fending off all challengers to hold it through to the finish. Well done to the team and get well soon to Shane O'Donoghue who broke his wrist in a high speed crash on the final stage. For more information visit http://www.waterfordracingclub.com or find us on Facebook.

There is little about summit meeting that the …
