Many Irish Universities titles won
On Friday and Saturday last at Athlone IT the Irish University's Championships were held and there were many medals won by Waterford athletes competing with various Colleges and athlete from WIT figured prominently also. Jessie Barr UL won the 100 M Hurdles in 13 92 seconds and 400 Metres Hurdles in 58.19, Dave Hynes WIT had a double also in the 100 Metres in 10.74 and 200 Metres in 22.23, Chris Russell DCU won the 400 metres in 49.04, Thomas Houlihan Cork IT won the Pole Vault with 4.40 Metres. Silver medals were won by Laura Behan DCU 3000 Metres, Andrew Connick WIT in the 10000 Metres, Michael Dowling do in the 1500 Metres, Zoe Scanlon do Javelin and 8 kg Weight, Lisa Hoilihan, NUI Maynooth Pole Vault, Jessie Barr 400 Metres, and bronze medal winners were Chris Russell 200 Metres, Barry Upton WIT 400 Metres Hurdles, Brian Mc Ginley do Steeplechase, Charlotte O'Farrell Hammer Zoe Scanlon Discus and Ciara Cronin UCC 800 Metres. In Naumberg in Germany on Sunday last Jamie Costin finished 8th in a 20 KM International Walk in 1 hr 25 minutes 24 seconds, the winners time was 1.20.55
Harty wins Butlerstown 10KM
Two hundred competed in the 30th Annual Butlerstown10 km on Friday last and Philip Harty from Ballinamult running with Donore Harriers led from the start and was the very easy overall winner in a time of 31 minutes and 47 seconds, Frank Quinlan, Waterford AC was second in 32.17 and Sean Stillwell, West Waterford was third in 34.15. Angela McCann Clonmel was also the very comfortable winner of the ladies section in 36.44,.Maedbh Savage,Tramore was second in 42.16 and Laura Flavin, West Waterford AC was third in 42.18. First man over 40 Finlay Weir Waterford AC, o 45 Sean Caulfield, St Senan's ,o 50 Martin McCarthy, West Waterford, o 55 Colin Lyons do, Junior Damien Murphy, do. Ladies o 35 Karen Ryan, West Waterford, o 40 Theresa Cunningham, Carrick on Suir, o 45 Irene Clark,o 50 Josie Ui Chuirrin,West Waterford , Junior Kate Nolan, Waterford AC. Once again Pat Hennessy was organiser in chief- but didn't come under starters orders, and a big thank you to the Gardai, to West Waterford AC for their major input, Butlerstown GAA and Holy Cross Lounge for services rendered, Pat Hennessy's wife Kathleen and Mrs Betty Lonergan for the catering and all the stewards. Best of luck to Clare Hennessy daughter of Pat and Kathleen who runs in the Manchester Marathon this week end. On Sunday Sylvia Malone Waterford AC was first lady home in the Wexford 10km and her husband Kevin was third overall.
Busy week ahead
This week sees the start of the Track and Field season in earnest with three Schools fixtures at the RSC on three consecutive days. On Wednesday at 12.30 pm the Waterford Secondary Schools Championships go ahead and lots of help needed for this fixture. Two Primary School Sports take place on Thursday April 26 th and Friday April 27. At 11am. On Thursday the event organised by Ferrybank AC is confined to Primary Schools in Waterford City and surrounding areas in East Waterford, Contact number is 087 6889330. On Friday April 27th the Tramore and District Primary School Sports is at 12.30pm. It will take in the schools in Tramore, Dunhill and Fenor. Both of these
fixtures are qualifiers for County finals later on and there will be a Sprint and Middle distance race and relays for under 8 born 2004/5, u 9 born 2003, u 10 born 2002, u11 born 2001, u12 born 2000, over 12 born 1999 or before.on,boys and girls.
Munster Secondary Schools Dates
East Munster Girls, RSC Wednesday, May 2nd, 12 pm East Munster Boys, RSC Wednesday, 11.30 am May 9th, Munster Finals Saturday, May 19th Cork It Track. Next week end Apr 28/29 AAI Annual Congress of Athletics Ireland in Cavan. The Munster Junior and under 23 Championships and Juvenile Combined events are in Castleisland on Monday May 7 th. Waterford County Championships Sunday 13th and Sunday 20th May RSC 11 am both days, programme with all clubs long ago, if you are involved with any club coaching you should have a copy of it by now, if not ask for it from secretary.

Sympathy
All his many friends in the Road Racing scene send their deepest sympathy to Ray Murray on the death of his mother Mrs Madge Murray, Portlaw which occurred last Thursday.

Waterford Tramore Run
The 43rd Annual Blue Wall Technology Waterford to Tramore 7.5 mile road race is on Saturday, 5th May 2012.The race starts near Waterford City Hall at 7:00pm sharp and finishes opposite the Majestic Hotel in Tramore. Don't forget to organise a lift back to Waterford to collect your car. Entries will be taken at the Munster Bar, on the Mall (which is near both the Tower Hotel and only minutes from the start) between 5:45pm and 6:45pm on the night. Those who have pre-entered can collect their number in the Munster Bar at the pre entered section.
