Munster titles won in Templemore

On Saturday last the Munster Junior,under 23 and Juvenile Combined Event Championships were in Templemore and Waterford was well represented there.Waterford AC had a very good day with their athletes winning two under 23 titles, four junior and one juvenile Combined Event. Grace Furlong in the under 23 grade had a double with the long jump and triple jump, the four junior winners were James Murphy in the long jump, Luke O'Brien in the javelin, Cian O'Brien high jump and Ruth Heery in the walk Eoin Kenny was second in the 400 metres and third in the javelin, Emily O'Mahony had a second in the triple jump and a third in the long jump, Kathleen Heery was second in the discus and third placings went to Fergus O'Brien in the 5000 metres and Sarah Jacob in the discus. In the under 12 combined events Sarah Abullo was first. For Tramore Denise O'Connor won the under 23 100,200,400 m hurdles and was second in the 100 m hurdles. For Ferrybank Emily Nolan was second in the junior 200 metres and Katie Nolke was second in the u 16 Combined Events. In many of the junior and under 23 events entries were very disappointing.

Trevor wins in Spain

A group of runners from Waterford AC travelled to Madrid on Sunday last to run in the Non Elite section of the Rock and Roll Half Mrathon.Trevor Power had a fine win in 72 minutes, Frank Quinlan was 11 th behind him and also running were Anthony Quinlan, Des Colbert, John Nolan and Brian Sullivan, Vinnie Codd, Ed Battye and Peter Murphy .

Grant wins Ferrybank 10 Km

120 runners and a large group of walkers took part in the Annual Angela Burns Memorial 10km on Sunday morning last in ideal conditions. The race developed into a two man battle from an early stage between Pat Grant Ferrybank and Paul Wyse Waterford and they fought out a ding dong battle for most of the journey, in the end Grant finished the stronger to finish a very popular winner in 38 minutes 56 seconds,Wyse was second in 37.07. and David Devine Focus on Fitness was third in 39.06.First lady home was Elaine O'Donovan St Joseph's in 41.37, Clare Sherman was second in 4 and Clare Croke Saturday Road Runners was third in 47. Prior to the main event there was a run over a much shorter distance for the youngsters and all gave it their very best Áine O’Callaghan was the first girl home, while Aiden Mackey was the first boy home Again it was a very well organised event with lots of stewards and as always the input of the Garda who accompanied the race was very much appreciated.

Faugheen 5 KM Report

120 competed in the Faugheen 5km road race last Friday evening and Niall Sheil St Killians Wexford was first home in 15 minutes 46 seconds, Hugo Blair Waterford had a very good run to finish second in15.56 and David Ryan Clonmel was third in 16.04.First lady home was Jacqui Carthy Kilmore Wexford in 18.23 , Jacqueline Hughes Thurles Crokes was second in 18.46 and Clare Annan Clonmel was third in 18.53 . It was race 1 of the Outfield Sports 12th Annual Series with Fitzgerald/Fleming Accountants the sponsors on the evening. Organised by the Carrick on Suir Road Runners as always it was very well organised with help from The Gardai and Red Cross on a lovely evening

Kilmacow Open Sports.

The rescheduled Kilmacow Open Sports on Sunday had a good entry and the award for the Best Juvenile Club went to United Strider's New Ross with St Senan's second. St Senan's had quite a number of winners at the meeting and Waterford AC had quite a few and Ferrybank and west Waterford had winners also had successes. 49 th Annual Waterford to Tramore Road Race on Saturday. A large entry is expected for the 49th Annual Bluewall Paddy Flanagan Memorial Road Race on Saturday next from Waterford to Tramore. Its race 3 of the Intersport Elvery's /Asics Series and the race begins at 7 pm sharp near City Hall The Mall .entries online at and on the night near the start.

Waterford Secondary Schools Championships

This Wednesday with a 12 noon start the East Munster Girls Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships are at the RSC and many athletes from Waterford schools will be competing in four grades,minor,junior, intermediate and senior, other school fixtures coming up are East Munster Boys Secondary Schools Championships Templemore 11.30 am Thursday June 10 th, Munster Secondary Schools Finals are in Castleisland Saturday May 19 th.
