FAI Football Development Officer Update

Wednesday, 9th January 2008

Happy New Year

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody involved in our game the very best wishes for 2008.

Emerging Talent Game

On Friday 28th of December and Thursday 3rd of January the Emerging Talent Regional Centre (Clonmel) played two challenge games against the Regional centres of Kerry and Ennis.

The Under 14 squad performed very well throughout their games and defeated the Kerry centre 4-0 and the Ennis Centre 2-0.

The U15/16 squad also performed very well in these games and defeated the Kerry centre 1-0 and the Ennis Centre 4-1. Waterford was well represented in both of these games and it was also very encouraging for the players to see the International manager Vincent Butler in attendance in Cahir Park.

These games are non-competitive and are aimed towards player development only so therefore results are not a priority for these lads but to put in excellent performances and results is very rewarding and a testament to the hard work put in by all players and staff throughout the season.

Well done to all the players and the coaches Darren Murray, Billy Hearne, Tommy Griffin, Derek Browne, and our physio Seamus Conway.

Coaching Calendar 2008

This week the coaching calendar for Waterford City will be distributed to all clubs and will be published in next week's update. Coach education is of course to the forefront which is critical to the development of our game. Other courses that will take place in 2008 include a volunteer management course, IT Skills, Fundraising for clubs, Grounds keeping and pitch development.

Google AlertWhen a company which has it's European Headquarters here in Ireland is called 'evil' and 'immoral' by M.P.s in The House of Commons you tend to sit up and take notice. The particular company that was being referred to was Google and the reason it had enraged M.P.s in London was because even though it has a big operation there and conducts a lot of business there it pays no corporate tax. It does this by having all of its financial transactions finished here in Ireland. And the company here is …
