Two All Ireland Juvenile Indoor titles won

Saturday last was the final day of the Irish Life Health All Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone and two athletes from Waterford won titles. In the under 18 60 metres hurdles Shane Monagle Tramore won in a very fast time of 8.10 seconds a personal best for him while Shane Cawley Waterford easily won the under 16 Shot Putt with a fine throw of 14.28 metres. Others to collect medals were James Murphy Waterford a very close 2nd in u 18 triple jump with 12.73 metres and bronze medals went to Emily Nolan Ferrybank in the 200 metres u 19 with a personal best of 25.62, Lorna Monaghan also Ferrybank triple jump u 19 with 10.21 metres, Luke Brennan 800 m u 17 in 2.00.52 a personal best and not far behind the winner, Eoin Kenny 200 metres u 18 with 23.10 both Waterford AC .Over the three days of the championships Waterford athletes did very well winning seven titles as well as taking home several silver and bronze medals.At the Spring Throws meeting in Athlone on Sunday Eoghan Flynn Waterford AC won the 800 g javelin with a personal best throw of 61.57 metres.

Mc Donalds Ferrybank Open Sports on Sunday

The RSC is the venue on Sunday next for the Annual Ferrybank AC Open Sports which get under way at 12 noon. As usual a huge entry is expected from many parts of the country and Waterford athletes will be out in force from all the clubs. There are races for boys and girls under 8 to under 17 and many field events are included also junior men and women have 100m,800m high and long jump, seniors and masters have 100 and 1500 metres ,there are boys and girls relay's under 9,11,13,15,(not mixed) there are mixed relays under 17 and junior (at least two girls in each) and race walks are also included on a very varied programme. All athletes in the under 8,9,10,11 and 12 age groups will receive a Voucher for a McDonald Happy Meal to be used in Mc Donalds in Waterford at two locations in the City Centre and Cork Road please note ages. Another fixture on Sunday are the National 10Km road championships in Dublin.

West Waterford Road Series begins

This Friday April 7th see’s the start of the Intersport Elverys/Asics summer series promoted by West Waterford AC for 2017 when the 4th Annual M T S Media Ballinroad 5k will get this year's series under way at 7 pm. Entries from 5.45 pm at Race Headquarters at Ballinaroad Soccer Club premises.

Irish University Championships

On Friday and Saturday next the Irish University Track and Field Championships take place at Cork IT Track and Waterford athletes will compete for various Universities and Institutes of Technology over the two days, Waterford IT will be well represented also. On Friday competition begins at 2 pm and runs right through until 7.30 pm and on Saturday the days competition begins at 9.45 am and ends at 4 pm.
