Topping the bill last Saturday night was the final of the Alan Walsh and Track Supporters Club sponsored Doctor Morrissey Coursing bred sprint event. After heavy rain conditions on the night were very testing with the going rated . 20 slow for the standard trip races with the sole sprint contest rated sand.

In the sprint decider it was all to play for on the run to the opening turn and while Mr Matt poked his head in front near the first turn it was 2/1 shot Marshals Goddess (Musical Time-Marshals Pearl) who swept into the lead on the wide outside. Waterford Duathlon

Weather conditions were not kind to the racers in this year’s Waterford Duathlon, with 79 competitors braving the elements to toe the line outside Butlerstown GAA Centre on Saturday morning. The race consisted of a 5km run, followed by a three lap cycle totalling 20km, finished off with a 3km run. Aubrey Storey of Waterford Triathlon Club battled the wet and windy conditions to give a dominant performance, leading the race from gun to tape. He was pushed hard in the first run by junior competitor Damon Crowley of WTC, who went on to post the day’s fastest split time in the second run. However, on the bike,

Carrick Tri Club’s Gerard O’Loughlin’s racebest split of 32:40 for the 20k meant he left T2 just seconds behind Storey for the second run.

Galway end Waterford interest

It was a make or break game for both Waterford and Galway on Sunday last in the Allianz National Hurling League as the winner would claim a place in the knockout semi-final stage while for the loser it was the end of the road and worse still, could potentially place them in a relegation dogfight. Waterford sat on top of the league with victories over Clare and Tipperary and a draw with Cork e ensuring that anything other than a loss would, on the head to head, put them in the semi-final. For Galway it was simple, a win and the would progress. After the late late show against Tipperary the previous week there was real anticipation within the local followers, allied to our recent good record against the Tribesmen, that we could get the required result

wexford y ouths 2 - 1 waterford united Across the Back by Booter

Waterford United's season took another turn for the worse in Ferrycarrig Park on Friday last and now they are propping up the table beside SD Galway. One point from a possible twelve tells it's own story. Next up is a visit from Athlone Town, who are managed by Roddy Collins and that is going to be another tough game for a team which lacks spirit at the moment.

The Blues could have went in front after seven minutes when Seamus Long played a ball out to the left for Paul Quilty, who laid the ball back to the edge of the penalty area for Paudie Quinn but his cheeky right-footed effort was magnificently tipped over the crossbar by Wexford Youths keeper Graham Doyle.

Waterford were celebrating the lead goal less than

Club training duathlon

With the second race in the Kilkenny Duathlon Series cancelled due to the inclement weather there was a great turn out for the club training duathlon on the Butlerstown course. It was great to see so many new members as well as the more seasoned club members take part. Unfortunately many of the more 'experienced' members seemed to forget one of the cardinal rules and obviously weren't paying attention to the race briefing with a whole bunch of them taking the wrong route. Technically a whole raft of disqualifications should be dished out but as it was only a practice race, we'll let the DQs slide this time. First male home was Emmet 'Faris keks' Kelly. First female home was newcomer Johann Falconer. Well done to all who took part and those who helped to marshal/time. Full results

Its been a busy couple of weeks on the domestic cycling competitive calendar. In recent weeks we have sent team all over the country. A couple of weeks ago we sent a full team to RAS Lumini in Co. Limerick where we welcomed back Brian O'Keeffe from injury and Mark Nugent placed a very hard fought 4th place in the Elite A1 race. Star of the show however was super veteran, Eamonn Ryan who scored 2nd overall in the over 50's race. Its nice to see the club being competitive at all levels from junior through Elite to Veteran.

On St Patricks day, with several of our riders out due to illness or injury we sent a mostly rookie squad to Carrick On Suir for the famous and prestigious Carrick Cup. Making their competitive debut for the club were newcomers Niall

The 8:20:1 Sandman Challenge is Tramore's newest sporting event combining the now classic Baldyman Beach Race with a stiff 20km road cycle capped off by a 1km dart up and down the Promenade. Don't miss being part of the action.

All proceeds from the Sandman will go to local charities. The inaugural event will support The Arch Club in Tramore who provide a social outlet for people with special needs and respite for parents and families of special needs children and adults.

  • A Wonderful Harvest

Even though the weather Gods didn’t exactly play ball over the weekend it doesn’t take away from the fact that this years Waterford Harvest Festival was yet again another wonderful success. It was great to see the streets of the centre of the city so beautifully and thoughtfully decked out. The various food stalls offering tastes from all over were great to wander around. The information and background that each of the stall holders were able to give on the provenance of their food was really interesting an …
