Shamrock Rovers ``B'' 3 Waterford United 0
Waterford United end season with defeat in Tallaght
The curtain fell on the First Division League in the Tallaght Stadium on Sunday last in disappointing fashion for Waterford United. A season that promised so much at the outset turned out to be bitterly shambolic and due to this latest defeat the team finished second bottom with 25 points from 28 games played. A lot of hard work off the field will be required if the fortunes of the club are to be restored once again. Many months of planning will be needed to decide what path the club will take. The team which played in this game included many fine talented performers but they will require experienced players to help them next season so the management committee will have a lot of soul searching

Two great rivals Ballygunner and Mount Sion faced off on Sunday last in a hugely anticipated JJ Kavanagh sponsored Waterford Senior Hurling County Final. Ballygunner fancied by many to make amends for their final defeat, to neighbours Passage in 2014, had come through the competition with an unblemished record. Opponents Mount Sion with a long history in the competition, seemed to have returned to their early season form in the quarter final and more particularly in their semi-final defeat of championship favourites De La Salle. All was set for another episode of the thrillers of the late nineties and early noughties. The oddsmakers favoured the Knockboy outfit although there was precious little between them in the group stage which Ballygunner won but by a narrow margin. Although the rain threatened, it was fine as the opening game, a junior hurling semi-final between Clonea and Roanmore got

Blues rock the Ramblers
Waterford United 2 Cobh Ramblers 1
Waterford United recorded their first league win since June when they came from behind to defeat Cobh Ramblers in the driving rain at the RSC on Friday night last. It was a game that the young Waterford side dominated but they had to wait until the 87th minute to score the winning goal. Mark Walsh, a 59th substitute was the player who produced the biggest cheer of the season from the home supporters.
Kevin Burns gifted Cobh the lead goal on 12 minutes when Stephen Kenny got free inside the area but his weak effort was saved by home goalkeeper. However Burns lost control of the ball and then he only succeeded in pushing the ball into his own net.
Vinny Sullivan brought a fine save out of David Browne at the other

County Final Cracker
Sunday next at Walsh Park sees the culmination of the JJ Kavanagh Senior Hurling Championship as arch rivals Ballygunner and Mount Sion face off for the Waterford News and Star Cup. The Gunners have been to the forefront of the market from the beginning of the competition but early Mount Sion form saw many sit up and take notice. Indeed the Monastery outfit had a blip in the latter stages of the group games but both their outings against Abbeyside and De La Salle in the knockout rounds saw the city team back to their early season form and their confidence will have been buoyed that their players like Martin O'Neill, Gavin Carroll and Ian Galgey have all overcome their injury woes. Sion will be looking to return to the top of the tree, a place they have been on more

Longford too powerful for Waterford United
Waterford United 0 Longford Town 2
Longford Town more or less booked a return to the Premier League when they defeated Waterford United at the RSC on Friday night last. They are now four points clear at the top with just two games remaining. The three points they collected from this game coupled with Shelbourne's loss to Finn Harps means that a win against Shamrock Rovers ``B'' this weekend will see them get promoted. Waterford on the other hand are still searching for their first win since June and they have now set a target of six points from their remaining games against Cobh this Friday at the RSC and away to Shamrock Rovers B'' the following Sunday.
Longford struck for the lead goal in the contest on 26 minutes when David O'Sullivan got down the

Crime & PunishmentIt seems that not a week goes by without some media stories about murder, manslaughter and assaults assailing the general public. Some stories in particular about murders, seem to take on a life of their own and turn into something more resembling a soap opera in the nature of their telling. In turn this seems to create a real climate of fear around the way in which people tend to live their lives. Whether or not this should be the way that things should be is another matter.Th …
