They took an early lead but the visitors equalised to leave the sides lavel at the interval but it was all one way traffic in the second half and led by capatin Ross Fitzpatrick, who scored two headed goals and Ethan Boyle who created two goals and scored one the talented Blues team completed the double over the Leesiders. .
The Blues got off to the most perfect start to the game inside four minutes when Ethan Boyle did superbly well down the right channel before putting in a brilliant cross for Ross Fitzpatrick and his sublime downward header gave Cork City keeper Cathal

WATERFORD RECLAIM MC GRATH CUP
After an absence of some thirty four years the Waterford Senior Footballers captured the McGrath Cup after defeating UCC following a thrilling seventy minutes in Fraher Field Dungarvan on Saturday evening last. Winners of the inaugural trophy in 1981 the Deise had been in the final on just one occasion in the intervening years (2002) where they went down to Clare 2-13 to 2-11. That was the Banner's eleventh win in the competition and they have annexed the Cup once more since that victory. The trophy which was by Corkman Joe McGrath who led Blackrock to All-Ireland success in 1973. History was very much against Waterford going into the competition. However record are made to be broken and this Waterford side under the guidance of Kerryman Tom McGlinchy and his fellow selectors Tony Cporcoran and Ger Power

MC GRATH CUP FINAL GAA Notes by The Villager
Pride of place this week must go to the Waterford Senior Footballers who took the scalp of Cork in Clashmore on Sunday last and in so doing reach the final of the McGrath Cup. One might well ask the question what does one result mean?. Perhaps little, but, in terms of confidence for this Deise outfit it might well prove a catalyst for the upcoming Allianz National League. Beating a Rebel outfit in any competition is a huge achievement, all the more so in that Cork senior footballers would invariably have thier eyes firmly fixed on a long championship and perhaps a Sam Maguire at the end. The rebels don't just take part to play a game. They believe the old adage "winning breeds success". Added to that is the fact that Waterford, since the arrival

Tramore cruise into next stage of FAI Junior Cup
Tramore 4 - Whitechurch (Dublin) 1
Tramore have joined Carrick United and the Villa in the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup following this easy victory over Whitechurch from Dublin in Graun Park on Sunday last. They will play away to Sheriff United in Dublin on Sunday week next. This coming Sunday Carrick will host Greenhills-Greenpark and the Villa will welcome Liffey Wanderers to Connors Park.
The opening goal proved to be an excellent one. Francis Rockett played the ball down the right flank to Leigh Quilty and when he picked out Meshac Babatu the strong Tramore striker gave the visiting goalkeeper Shane Merrigan no chance from deep inside the penalty area with his right foot. The goalscorer then missed a great chance on 23 minutes and Robbie Mulligan did likewise one minute

Two Munster Junior titles won by Waterford athletes
The Munster Cross Country Championship fixture at the WIT Sports Campus in Carriganore on Sunday last proved successful for Waterford with two individual junior titles being won by athletes from the county. The junior men's race was a very competitive one involving three athletes from early on two from Clare as well as Barry Keane Waterford AC. They were locked together for the majority of the journey and with 300 metres left Keane made his move and it proved a decisive one as he swept to his first major victory very impressively. His club Waterford AC took the silver team medals with himself, David McGlynn, Jamie Murphy and Conor Quinn. And Waterford were second in the inter County team section. The second win came in the ladies race but it was completely different

Double delight for Waterford
It was double celebrations in Waterford on Sunday last as both the Senior Hurlers and Footballers came through their respective games against Limerick Institute of Technology and Cork Institute of Technology. The hurlers under the stewardship of Derek McGrath and his management team were hoping to get the new year off to a winning start that was accomplished but not without the odd problem or two. Challengers LIT under former Waterford and present Clare bainisteoir Davy Fitzgerald are like all college teams well into their preparations for the Fitzgibbon Cup where they will face both Jordanstown and DIT in a bid for a place in the last four. Carriganore was the venue for this game and with both teams lining out as selected it was very much an opportunity for the respective camps to analyize their form. Waterford

Waterford United 1 - UCD 3
All good things must come to an end and that is exactly what happened at the RSC on Saturday last. Waterford United were the only unbeaten team in the entire league but a rather flat performance resulted in them losing their proud record. Perhaps in the long run this could prove to be a good thing for the team because long unbeaten runs can add pressure because all of the other sides want to be the first team to bring an end to that sequence and now that it has happened this talented Waterford side can now get back to winning form when they play away against Mervue United on Sunday next. Their next home game is against second placed Cork City. The Blues remain top of the table despite Saturday's defeat. Waterford manager

Crime & PunishmentIt seems that not a week goes by without some media stories about murder, manslaughter and assaults assailing the general public. Some stories in particular about murders, seem to take on a life of their own and turn into something more resembling a soap opera in the nature of their telling. In turn this seems to create a real climate of fear around the way in which people tend to live their lives. Whether or not this should be the way that things should be is another matter.Th …
