Blues Bound For College
Waterford United interrupt their pre-season schedule for a competitive fixture this weekend, as they head to Douglas to take on College Corinthians in the Munster Senior Cup quarter final clash. The Blues are coming off the back of a very impressive 1-0 win over Limerick in last Friday's friendly match, a result which must inject an early confidence boost into the side, the more so as United were reduced to 10 for well over an hour. The Cup game takes place this Sunday 24th at 2.00pm in Corinthians Park, Douglas, Cork, and the rather involved directions are below!
Directions to Corinthians Park
For anyone wishing to travel to the game on Sunday, directions, with thanks to the College Corinthians website, are as follows: Go through the Jack Lynch tunnel and keep driving until you come to the Kinsale Road

Footballers continue in good
Another two Allianz National Football League points garnered at Fraher Field Dungarvan on Saturday last as the Deise continued their good early season form to edge out Tipperary on a 2- 8 to 0- 9 scoreline. Following some determined exploits in the opening two games of the McGrath Cup the Niall Carew outfit had an opening round success over Clare in the league and faced Tipperary on Saturday with a precious two points at stake. The Premier had defeated Waterford in the afforementioned McGrath Cup semi- final albeit by the narrowest margin allied to a goal in the dying minutes so there was every reason to believe that this game against our Munster neighbours was liable to fall either way. Waterford were still without the services of talisman Gary Hurney who is out of bounds for the

Mullins rule supreme at star- studded Leopardstown
Champion Trainer Willie Mullins took no prisoners on Saturday's star- studded card at Leopardstown, saddling the winner of three of the four Grade 1s as part of an amazing four timer. The highlight of his day unquestionably came in the featured Hennessy Gold Cup, with his Sir Des Champs getting revenge over the valiant Flemenstar by 1 3/4 lengths under Davy Russell. The most dramatic of Mullins' wins came in the Dr. P.J. Moriarty Chase, with his Boston Bob rallying back from seemed certain defeat to snatch the verdict by a nose under Paul Townend. That formed the middle leg of a treble for Townend on Mullins' other two winners, with him riding Champagne Fever to a 1 3/4 lengths success in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle and Tennis Cap to an all- the- way

Munster Ladies League Division 3:
Waterford 5 Ashton 1 Newtown School
Waterford faced Ashton on home turf on Saturday the 9th and were determined to come out with a result. Coach Tosh Walsh's positive pre- match talk instilled confidence in his young Division 3 team. It was Ashton who scored the 1st goal from a penalty corner but Waterford immediately responded, with centre forward Maura Haran scoring the equaliser. A further great goal from Katie Tyrell in the first half meant it was 2- 1 at half time. Early in the second half, Ashton were frustrated when the characteristic red and yellow stick of captain Rosie Heery refused to concede, as it saved the ball on the goal line. Ashton did all they could but Waterford proved to be the stronger team on the day, scoring 3 further goals from

Leahs Impact on a roll
Leahs Impact is in the form of his life at present and recorded a twelfth career success from trap one last Saturday night. Favourite backers were on good terms with themselves courtesy of 1/2 hot pot 'Leahs' (Royal Impact- Leahs Lady) John Atkinson's charge coming back for more after leading to win out in a best of night 29.14. The always prominent 'Leahs' was headed off the third bend by Allis Pippa but finishing the stronger 'Leahs' came through to deny 'Allis' by a handy two lengths.

Young Blues slip up at home
waterfprd united 0 - 4 ucd
Having gotten back into contention for league hounours following some recent good results, the Waterford United Under 19 team came up short at the RSC on Saturday last when they were well beaten by a classy UCD team, and now their chance of glory has more or less vanished for this season.
It took UCD less than six minutes to take the lead when Ryan Malone whipped in a left- wing corner kick that found Colm Crowde inside the area and his deft close range finish with his right- foot that gave Blues keeper Sean Whitty no chance whatsoever. Nika Arenadle missed a chance to double the lead for UCD shortly afterwards when he rose unchallenged to get on the end of a right- wing cross from Malone but his header

Wildcats overcome Ulster Rockets
WIT Wildcats produced a good performance last Saturday afternoon in the Mercy secondary school gym to overcome the strong challenge of Ulster Rockets from Belfast. With only 3 games left in the regular season WIT Wildcats are still in with a good chance of making the top four. Ulster Rockets too have ambitions of taking fourth place and so this was an important game for Wildcats to win.
It was the girls from Belfast who made the better start but scores from the hard working Sinead Deegan and Christine O'Gorman had the score level at 8 each after five minutes. WIT Wildcats suffered a huge blow when Niamh Mullally aggravated an ankle injury she had carried into the game. In spite of her injury Niamh made a massive contribution to

Making Hay while the Sun ShinesNaturally, by the time that you read this editorial the weather will have changed majorly several times and we will have experienced lashing rain, snow, gale force winds and hailstones but the thing is that for about the first time this year we have experienced some really good weather that lasted for more than the usual 20 minutes to half an hour. As a nation we are obsessed by the weather and its entirely understandable. It is so variable and in such a constant flux that …
