SUBWAY store owner Gerard paves way for success of Irish food companies
Local SUBWAY store owner Gerard Murphy was celebrating this week with news that his two stores in Waterford have helped to open the door for Irish food producers and suppliers to provide produce to 3,400 SUBWAY stores across Europe.
Gerard is one of 54 SUBWAY franchisees in Ireland whose stores gave Irish food companies a valuable platform to prove that they could deliver quality ingredients to one of the largest brands in the world.
"These Irish companies started supplying stores like mine in George’s Street and Ardkeen and now they are supplying SUBWAY stores all over Europe," said Gerard. "The Sub you buy in London, Paris or Rome is just the same as the Sub you buy in Waterford. They are all made using ingredients from Ireland," he added.
"Ireland is now at the heart of the SUBWAY brand in Waterford and all across Europe. Every time someone buys their favourite Sub they are supporting Irish jobs," he continued.
Gerard revealed that 55 million of the meatballs used to make the famous Meatball Marinara Subs ordered by customers in towns and cities across Europe last year were made in Ireland. 37 million bread sticks and all of the 205,728 muffins sold in Ireland and the U.K. each year are also made in Ireland. "Irish food producers and suppliers are working with SUBWAY stores and putting the country on the map for all the right reasons," said Gerard. "Stores like mine in Waterford are helping to sustain hundreds of Irish jobs and I am proud that SUBWAY stores are one of the Irish food industry’s biggest customers," he added.
SUBWAY customers in Waterford can now look forward to the launch of another new Sub – The Big Beef Melt. "The new Big Beef Melt will be launched this month and in showing the SUBWAY brand’s increased commitment to local sourcing, the beef patty will be produced in Ireland using 100% Irish beef sourced from certified quality assured farms. I have no doubt that it will be a big hit with our customers," said Gerard. SUBWAY fans in Waterford can also visit stores at John Street in Waterford city and at O’Connell Street in Dungarvan.

The Government has announced that it plans to give each child in the State a second year of free pre-school. It might not sound like earth shattering news but if it does happen then it could be one of the most significant things that this Government has done since it took office. Any money that is given over to education is a …
