Launch of the 2012 County Waterford Community & Voluntary Awards

The County Waterford Community Forum Community & Voluntary Awards 2012, was launched by Des Whelan of WLR Fm on Thursday 9th August in Dungarvan Shopping Centre. The scheme recognises and celebrates the commitment and vibrancy of the community and voluntary sector in County Waterford. Representatives from our corporate sponsors were present at the Launch along with, Mayor of County Waterford, Cllr Billy Kyne, Cllr Julie Landers, Lismore Town Mayor, Michael J Walsh, Chairperson of the Community Forum, Denis McCarthy, County Manager WCC, Tom Gilligan, Community & Enterprise WCC, Damien Tiernan, Passage East & Crooke Development Group, winners of the 2011 Award scheme, members and Executive of the Community Forum, Muriel Tobin and Josephine Tobin, staff of the Community Forum.

Michael Walsh, Chairperson of the Community Forum opened the launch of the awards by thanking all the sponsors, without which the 2012 Awards could not go ahead. He also thanked the Waterford County Council, Dungarvan Shopping Centre, the Community Forum executive task group and staff of the Community Forum for their continued support.

Our newly elected County Mayor, Cllr Billy Kyne opened the proceeding by speaking about the important contribution of volunteering in our community.

Also speaking on behalf of Waterford County Council, Denis McCarthy congratulated the Community Forum on their work and on the continued success of the Awards.
