The Tuckaway Shop In Waterford Succeeds As Regional Winner In Goodall’s ‘Best Scone In Ireland’ Search

Goodall’s of Ireland’s search for the country's Best Scone, which has captured the imagination of the Irish public this morning revealed that Waterford’s Tuckaway Shop in Arundel Square in Waterford has been named regional winner in the search for ‘Best Scone in Ireland’ and will win the prize of 500.

The competition caught the public imagination with #bestscone becoming one of the top trends talked about on Twitter last week. A shortlist was compiled from public nominations cast on Twitter and Facebook and was then voted for on the http://www.goodalls.ie blog, with almost 10,000 votes being cast from around the country

The team of The Tuckaway Coffee Shop, Waterford have been making all their own scones by hand for 30 years and offer 4 varieties; a Fruit Scone with Raisins & Sultanas, a Plain White with a sprinkling of sugar, an Apple, Sultana & Cinnamon, and a Banana & Cinnamon, and the café received much local support to help clinch the title of regional winner.

Carlow’s Café Formenti’s unusual ‘Scruffin’, a cross between a muffin and a scone, was named overall national winner, chosen from a shortlist of 12 cafes & bakeries around the country from a list compiled from public votes cast on Twitter and Facebook and was then voted for on the http://www.goodalls.ie blog.

Three other regional winners were also selected from the shortlist of 12 finalists; Keogh’s Café on Trinity Street in Dublin and Tierney’s Costcutter in Ennis, Co. Clare, and Halo Café in Celbridge Co. Kildare, each eatery will also receive a €500 prize.

Speaking on behalf of Goodall’s, Gareth Watkins commented, "We wanted to celebrate the best of Irish baking – not the fancy stuff but tasty everyday stuff, that when it’s done well can be fantastic. We all know scones can vary from the mediocre to the truly great and Café Formenti represents the best of modern Irish food".

Any bakers wishing to try their hand at making Ireland’s best scone can have a look at http://www.Goodalls.ie where Goodalls will publish the café’s top tips on scone making. You can join in the great scone debate on Facebook.com/GoodallsIreland or follow the conversation on Twitter.com/GoodallsIreland.

The Tuckaway Shop are delighted to have won this prize and we would like to thank everyone who voted for them and in particular Niall Taylor who nominated them for the competition. The Tuckaway would also like to thank all their cusotmers for their support over the last 31 years and their wonderful staff, Ger, Mags and Christine for all their hard work and dedication.

Google AlertWhen a company which has it's European Headquarters here in Ireland is called 'evil' and 'immoral' by M.P.s in The House of Commons you tend to sit up and take notice. The particular company that was being referred to was Google and the reason it had enraged M.P.s in London was because even though it has a big operation there and conducts a lot of business there it pays no corporate tax. It does this by having all of its financial transactions finished here in Ireland. And the company here is …
