The Wig Clinic

Wednesday, 6th June 2012

A woman's hair is often referred to her crowning glory. Losing it therefore can be deeply traumatic. This can be compounded by the failure of friends. The Wig Clinic is a family run business run by sisters Fiona O'Riordan and Lisa Myers. It was as a result of their late mother Elizabeth O'Riordan and her experience with hair loss through chemotherapy that the sisters started the business. Together with a wonderful dedicated team of professional hair stylists they provide a personal and reassuring service that enables clients to regain their dignity. Its about giving back the feeling of being attractive, of restoring confidence and treating each person as an individual that matters so much, explains Fiona.

Wearing a wig or hairpiece gives one a sense of normality, its so important to many cancer patients to look "normal" to the outside world. It means you can go out to dinner or a social event and just look well and be yourself and for the moment that is you can simply be – no one is none the wiser, adds Lisa.

First Steps

From the moment you call us you will be put at ease as we guide you through the process. It is so important to make your appointment before you start your treatment. You will be surprised at how realistic the hairpieces are and the extensive selection of styles and colours, all of which can be adapted to suit your individual needs. The consultation is complimentary and therefore you are under no obligation. It takes place in a private setting and is strictly confidential. Once you have chosen your piece we will set it aside for you for when you need it. In our experience hair loss begins 14-17 days after your first treatment, although this can vary. Your liaison nurse will inform if your treatment will induce hair loss.

Once you come back into us, either in our private consultation suites in Boots Pharmacy in Wilton, Killarney, Limerick and Waterford or in our clinics in Mallow or Barrack St., Cork we will trim your own hair and style your hairpiece as required. We will go through the many options you have with regards to eyebrows, fringes and an extensive selection of hats and scarves. We will guide you through the grants and financial aids that you can avail of.

Complimentary Services

- Consultation - allow 1-1.5 hours

- Maintenance kit worth €50

- After care through to the very first trim

- Makeover by Boots No. 7 Beauty Consultants.

- Expert advise from Boots Pharmacists

We know only too well what a difficult time this can be and we feel privileged to be providing this service. We truly believe that when you look better on the outside you feel better on the inside and this makes it easier to face your daily challenges.

Only In America

Running is so yesterday however for the fitness trend setters in the US as they blaze a trail with a multitude of new fitness crazes this Summer. Aqualillies in LA has developed a cult and celebrity following for it's hardcore take on synchronised swimming. Aqua boot camps, with full size underwater treadmills, are also hot at the moment. Check out the rather bizarre looking youtube clips from US based Aqua specialists Hydroworx to see what it's all about. And no sooner had paddle boarding fitness classes become popular then along comes paddleboard yoga. Yoga on a surf board, now that's balance.

Quick Pick - Iceberger

'It's an ice cream, it's a sandwich, it's an ice cream sandwich'. That's what they say over at HB's website about the mighty iceberger where they also say it's Ireland's favourite ice cream. We were obviously not the only ones going for an ice cream sandwich then on a recent glorious sunny day. Vanilla ice cream between chocolatey dough biscuits this is the coolest sandwich around and if the Summer lives up to it's promise you'll work off the Icebergers meagre 180 calories in no time.

Google AlertWhen a company which has it's European Headquarters here in Ireland is called 'evil' and 'immoral' by M.P.s in The House of Commons you tend to sit up and take notice. The particular company that was being referred to was Google and the reason it had enraged M.P.s in London was because even though it has a big operation there and conducts a lot of business there it pays no corporate tax. It does this by having all of its financial transactions finished here in Ireland. And the company here is …
