Kundalini Yoga returns to Waterford

Wednesday, 1st February 2012

The very powerful & popular practise of Kundalini Yoga returns to Waterford. Classes will be held in several venues over the next few weeks and in Tramore.

What is Kundalini Yoga?

The word 'Kundalini' comes from the word 'kundal', which means "curled hair of the beloved". The uncoiling of the awakening Kundalini results in becoming totally and wholly aware and the unlocking of the creative potential that already exists in you. The word 'yoga' comes from ancient Sanskrit and means "yoke" or "union". It symbolizes the union of the body, mind and spirit. Kundalini yoga is a form of physical and meditative yoga that comprises various techniques using the mind, body and our senses.

The Kundalini is untapped spiritual energy at the base of the spine that can be drawn up through the body awakening each of the seven chakras of the body. Kundalini is one of the more spiritual types of yoga. It goes beyond the physical performance of asanas (postures) with its emphasis on breathing, meditation, mudras and chanting.

Here are some of the benefits one can derive from Kundalini yoga.

- Kundalini yoga helps in the better functioning of the digestive, glandular, cardiovascular, lymphatic and nervous system.

- It has a direct bearing with the glandular system and hence can enhance the ability to look and feel great.

- It heightens the senses. So, your ability to taste, smell, feel and see with sensitivity are increased.

- It helps eliminate and get rid of habits such as smoking and alcohol addiction.

- Kundalini yoga helps to enrich your sense of well-being and confidence that comes from the process of self-discovery of your inner self and reaching a relaxed state of mind and body.

- It also helps overcome negative feelings and encourages positive attitude and feelings.

- You can experience a better sense of self-control, overcome anger and resentment to find inner calm and mental peace.

- It strengthens the immune system too and helps you fight off several diseases and keep them at bay. A positive mind is a great weapon against all of them.

Prior to 1969, Kundalini yoga was only taught in secret from master to student. That changed when Yogi Bhajan broke with tradition and offered to teach anyone who was seeking enlightenment. These teachings have spread all over the world with the simple message: "It is the birthright of every human being to be healthy, happy and holy."

The purpose of any form of yoga is to raise the consciousness. Most students of yoga are familiar with classical 'Hatha Yoga', which emphasizes postures. This is the same for Kundalini Yoga; the only difference is how long it takes to get there.

Kundalini Yoga was designed for everyday people who have families, jobs, responsibilities, and in other words . . . a life. It has been said that to attain the same level of raised consciousness, a person must practice the classical yoga discipline for 21 years in order to achieve the same results that a Kundalini practitioner achieves in 2 years. Those who have practised both forms will attest to this from their experience. Kundalini yoga students report changes in the body and psyche within a few minutes and much deeper changes over time.

  • Who do you trust?

The news that the Yes side in favour of the Fiscal Referendum have seized the momentum with the majority of Irish voters is just an indication of how the debate over this issue is beginning to shape up. That Declan Ganly has weighed in on the side of the No vote also shows that there is still a lot to play for until the Irish electorate give the final decision later on this month. The Government parties as well as the main opposition party, Fianna Fail, are in favour of the Yes vote but so far little has reall …
