Waterford Philosophical Society

Waterford Philosophical Society presents a Stand Alone Lecture - The Confessions of Saint Augustine at 7:30 p.m., Monday 4th June, at Waterford Cheshire, John’s Hill, Waterford.

Saint Augustine’s contributions to philosophy, theology and a range of other intellectual disciplines have exerted a deep and wide-ranging influence upon the history of ideas. This lecture will explore Augustine’s seminal autobiography and consider the ways in which it can be related to core ideas from a selection of his other writings. Augustine’s indebtedness to Plato and Platonism, and his influence upon figures such as Calvin, Kierkegaard and Heidegger, will also feature as dominant themes throughout this talk.

Plastic Free Waterford

Plastic Free Waterford will officially launch its summer campaign on the 8th of June at St. Patrick’s Gateway Centre from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Plastic Free Waterford is an initiative of the Waterford One World Centre and aims to decrease the amount of single-use plastic littering our streets and shores. Across the world we use over a million plastic drink bottles per minute with only 9% of those bottles recycled. The rest end up in our oceans and landfills.

But we can do something about it. Join us along with the Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Pat Nugent, our flagship businesses Momo, An Uisce Beatha and Blackfriars Coffee, the Cast from How We See the World and the Sunday Drivers for an evening of music, performance and information with no plastic in sight. The campaign will run throughout the summer raising awareness of the problems with plastic ending in a week-long Plastic Free Waterford Week in September where businesses pledge to not give out single-use plastic to consumers.
