Ferrybank Library

"Music Matters" - a series of 5 classes for music lovers will take place in Ferrybank Library in May. Join local music tutor Noel O'Regan to explore how music works and ponder some music questions. Could you think like a composer and write a tune? How is music written down today and read by musicians? Is Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody a classical masterpiece? When Julie Andrews sung "Doe, a deer" who was she imitating from a thousand years ago? Classes will commence on Thursday 3rd May at 3.00pm – 5.00pm and will interest those with both formal musical training or those who just love music! Abhair as Gaeilge é - If you are thinking about improving your cúpla focal don't forget that the excellent Irish language teacher Mícheál O Máirtín will return to Ferrybank Library in April for another session of classes. These classes welcome people with all abilities – those who are new to the language or those who wish to refresh their knowledge. Ideal for anyone who wishes to improve their cúpla focal or those who wish to be more confident in helping their children with their Irish homework or those who wish to meet new friends.

Age Action Computer Classes – this programme delivers one-to-one training on computers, tablets and smartphones to people over the age of 55 If you have not attended this class already, please contact us to register your interest.

This five week course takes place in Ferrybank Library on Wednesday mornings @ 10:30am for two hours.

Spring Into Storytime – Ferrybank Library will run FREE story time sessions for children and parents/carers to celebrate the importance of families reading together and sharing stories. Access I.T. is now taking names for the NEW ECDL starting on Wednesday 16th May 2018. 9.30am to 12.30pm for 22 weeks at a cost 495 Euro. Pay as you go.

Country Market in Olaf Hall

Waterford Country Market is open in St. Olaf's hall, behind City square, every Friday between 8am and 3pm. Come in and buy home made bread, cakes, and now gluten-free products. Comeragh mountaineering club

Volunteers needed

St Brigids Family & Community Centre are looking for Volunteers to support the delivery of the Rainbows Programme.

Rainbows is a programme which supports children following a significant loss in their lives from bereavement or loss through parental separation and divorce. All applicants will be subject to Interview and Garda Vetting process and will need to be available to attend 4 days of training. Successful applicants may only deliver the programme under St Brigids guidance and within St Brigids centre. If you are interested in volunteering with us please contact Carmel on 051-375261.

Major Fundraising Event

Tickets are now for sale in aid of funds for Samaritans Waterford. "Diverse Brass" is a Brass Band that will perform at a concert on Friday April 20th in St John's Church, Parnell Street, Waterford under the musical directorship of Mr Liam Walsh. The band is comprised of brass players, most of whom are members of established Bands, (both Brass and Concert Bands) in the South East Region. Also taking part in this concert will be The Bealtaine Choir, WIT Concert Strings and Waterford Male Voice Choir. Waterford Samaritans, who offer emotional support to their callers, are a 100% voluntary organisation (with no paid staff) and can be contacted free 24/7, 365 days a year by phone, text or face to face contact at their centre at 16 Beau Street, Waterford by individuals who are suicidal or experiencing difficulties in life. 10,000 parents supported in 10 years

Anam Cara, the national organisation that supports bereaved parents, is asking people to consider running on its behalf in this year's Vhi Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin on June 3rd. The Anam Cara team will be commemorating ten years, during which the organisation has supported almost 10,000 bereaved mothers and fathers throughout Ireland.

Anam Cara brings together bereaved parents and their families to support each other – through monthly meetings, information evenings with guest speakers, family days and remembrance events. They are calling on women who are planning to run to consider doing so on behalf of Anam Cara in memory of a special loved one.

    Rush to CriticismThere are not many people who at this stage have not heard about the Cash family and what happened to them. The mother and six of her children had to seek accommodation in the Tallaght Garda Station last week as they had absolutely nowhere to turn to.
