Waterford Dyslexia Talk

On Wednesday 10th January 2018 at Edmund Rice Centre, Mount Sion, Barrack Street, Waterford City at 7.00pm

Guest Speakers: Donald Ewing, Tanya Brady, Dyslexia Association of Ireland

The talk will give a short explanation of what dyslexia is, and ways that parents can assist their children and discuss what supports and accommodations are available at school. The talk will also look at the demand for an after-school Dyslexia Workshop in Waterford for children with dyslexia. There will also be time for questions and answers.

Waterford Garden Plant Society A.G.M.

On Wednesday next the 10th of January, the Waterford Garden Plant Society will hold its A.G.M. At 7:30pm in St. Joseph and Benildus Hall. Members are asked to make every effort to attend and give us your views on our society. If you wish for changes, the A.G.M. is the place to express them.

Following the A.G.M., society member Paddy Tobin will give a lecture on the Pearls of Lake Como. All lectures are held in St. Joseph and Benildus Hall at the new time of 7:30pm. New members are always welcome.

Waterford’s first dedicated Parkinson’s

Exercise Classes at Edmund Rice Centre

Waterford 1st dedicated Parkinson’s exercises classes will begin on Tuesday 16th January 2018 in Edmund Rice Centre Waterford at 11am. Join and learn how smovey exercise and wellness tool, that is vibration therapy helps to reduce anxiety and stress, increase mobility, improve balance & coordination, increase circulation, improve digestion system, reduce pain in the body, strengthen core stability and more. Smovey was invented by Johanna Salzwimmer, an Austrian Tennis player who developed Parkinson’s. He realised the vibrations that are created through movement via the handle of the Smovey rings through the reflex zones in the palms of your hands give brilliant benefits and also reduces the symptoms of illnesses such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s, and arthritis.

Classes will run for 6 weeks, cost €50 per six classes or €10 per class.

FREE tester class with Irene Treacy, Ireland’s first smovey coach and PD warrior instructor will take a place on Tuesday 9th January 2018 at 11am.

Please join us for a cup of tea after the taster class and meet other people in the same situation. This has great social benefits and we can all help and encourage each other and work towards making a positive improvement together.

Those that sign up for the 6 week course on the 9th will be given a free assessment and their progress monitored and recorded.

Ferrybank Library

Basic Computer Course for Adults - This five week programme which is open to all ages, aims to provide digital training to people depending on the level of their needs, from simple communication skills, e.g. email and social networking to higher level training, e.g. accessing public services, online banking, researching and buying goods and services. If you are interested in taking part in these computer classes, please contact the library on 051 897200 at your earliest convenience. Spaces are limited. Places will be assigned on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Ciorcal Cómhra - Do you enjoy a chat as Gaeilge?

Ferrybank’s Ciorcal Cómhra meets every second Tuesday at 2:30pm at Ferrybank Library.

The Ciorcal has a very friendly and open atmosphere. If you have a cúpla focail and you would like the chance to use it, the ciorcal is the place to be for craic, caint is comhrá.

Pickardstown Commemoration 2018

Sinn Féin McGrath /O’Brien Cumann, East Waterford are holding the 97th Anniversary Commemoration of the Pickardstown Ambush on Sunday the 14th January 2018.

Assemble at Pickardstown Cross, Tramore, Co. Waterford at 11.40 am on the Sunday morning of the 14th January 2018.

Parade to 'Shrine' starts at 12.00 sharp. Speaker: Peadar Tóibín TD. Carrick on Suir Flute Band and Colour Party will be in attendance. Refreshments afterwards at the Michael McGrath GAA Club, Riverstown, Tramore. All are welcome.

Tramore I.C.A. Notes

We ended 2017 with our Christmas party, and as always we had great fun during the auction/bring and buy and all the ladies gave generously. We will decide where to send the proceeds at our meeting. The committee provided a brilliant supper and we sang Carols to start off the festive season. A big thank you to everyone concerned!

Our first meeting for 2018 is on Wednesday 10th January at 8pm in Tramore House. We are delighted that Jill Bouchier will be our guest speaker and has offered to demonstrate her arts and crafts, so the beginning of yet another exciting year!

Marie will also confirm the details of our festive dinner planned for Wednesday 17th January, so if you haven’t already reserved a place please do so!. We will be re-starting our fitness regime with Aerobics at Splashworld, and if there is enough interest the bowling at Williamstown, and pitch and putt here in Tramore. The various craft classes are also ongoing. So do join us to learn or share new skills, and have some fun as well! We really look forward to seeing you, and wish everyone a Very Happy 2018!
