Waterford Philosophical Society

Waterford Philosophical Society presents a Stand-Alone Lecture - Tennyson's In Memoriam A. H. H. at 7:30 p.m., Monday 6th November, at Waterford Cheshire, John's Hill

Since its publication in 1850 In Memoriam A. H. H. has been widely lauded as a masterwork of Western literature. Revealing the various stages of grieving through which Tennyson passed as he mourned the untimely death of his beloved friend Arthur Henry Hallam, the poem offers a profoundly moving portrayal of the psychology of loss. While its depiction of bereavement has touched generations of readers, its incisive engagement with the religious and scientific upheavals of the Victorian period is no less remarkable. Following an introductory talk that will explore core aspects of Tennyson's artistic and intellectual development, this lecture will feature a number of guided readings of the poem.

No prior knowledge of philosophy is required. For further information, please visit our Facebook page (Philosophia Waterford) or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
