Waterford Music celebrate 70 years

Wednesday, 10th October 2012

2012 is a special year for Waterford Music as they celebrate 70 years of sharing first class chamber music events in the city. The programme for their 2012/2013 season has just been announced which again includes a wide-ranging line-up featuring some of the best musicians from Ireland and beyond. Membership and admission fees again remain unchanged and the first concert of the season which will take place on Thursday 18th October will incorporate their 70th Birthday celebrations. This event will feature soprano Aileen Itani and pianist Finghin Collins, pictured.

Born and raised in New York, Irish-American soprano Aileen Itani makes her home in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was awarded the Annual Prize of the Danish Music Critic's Association in 2009. She is a regular guest soloist with the Royal Danish Opera and the Danish National Opera, and has also appeared as soloist with most of the major orchestras in Denmark. Aileen is now especially active on the Danish contemporary music scene, enjoying an ongoing collaboration with FIGURA Ensemble. She recently gave the world premiere of a new song cycle by Peter Bruun, and is looking forward to a leading role in new opera by Andy Pape for ØresundsOperan in 2013. She is also building a presence in her maternal homeland with return engagements at the Kilkenny Arts Festival and a series of engagements with Finghin Collins.

After winning the RTÉ Musician of the Future Competition in 1994 and the Classical Category at the National Entertainment Awards in 1998, Finghin Collins took first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1999. Over the past decade he has developed a busy international career that takes him all over Europe, the United States and Asia. He has performed in many of the world’s major musical centres garnering consistent praise from critics and public alike. He has collaborated with the finest conductors and orchestras and in September 2010 he was appointed as the first ever Associate Artist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra for three seasons during which he will perform all twenty-three piano concertos by Mozart. He is also Artistic Director of the New Ross Piano Festival.

The programme will include works by Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Brahms and Korngold.

It does this by having all of its financial transactions finished here in Ireland. And the company here is …
