Why would a teenager give up her summer holidays?
Wednesday, 15th August 2012
Over twenty teenagers all aged 15 – 19 years are busy for the last month working 10am to 5pm each day with theatre director Jimmy Fay towards a show which happens at Garter Lane at the end of the August. So why would they give up their holidays – we asked some of the cast?
"I really am enjoying the play, its cool being involved in something, putting a lot of work and effort and knowing that the end result will hopefully stay with you for the rest of your life" says Leah Marshall. "Its nice to be with other teenagers who have the same goals as you do. Its hard work but its worth it when you each get that magical moment on stage or learning new things like dancing, singing or when a scene looks exactly how you imagined it"
Orla Hayes also did Waterford Youth Arts summer theatre project last year so she is an old hand "I knew how much fun last year had been and so I jumped at the chance of taking part this year. I've never done any musical theatre in the past but I'm really enjoying it now. I'm up for the challenge of learning, growing as a person and meeting new people all over again".
The summer project has been going now over 16 years and gives Waterford teenagers the opportunity of working on a professional style show with a top director.
This project only costs €20 for the participants but is sponsored by Waterford City Council Arts Office and Garter Lane Arts Centre.

We know about the exclusiveness of the hotels that the various leaders are going to be staying as well as some of their security detail. We know about the menus from which they will be choosing from. There is little about summit meeting that the …
