Irish Men in the First World War

This travelling exhibition created by the National Library of Ireland charts the huge human cost of the First World War, telling the stories of families who were left without a father, brother or son. These moving accounts bring home the reality of the war and tell us something about life in Ireland between 1914 and 1918. The exhibition is on display in Central Library to 27th September.

A History of Crime in Waterford

Join Donnchadh Ó Ceallacháin in Central Library for a talk on Waterford City Gaol and its notorious inmates. The Gaol, situated in Ballybricken was built in 1727 and closed in 1939.

The story behind "The Missing Postman" with Fachtna Ó Drisceoil

Author of The Missing Postman Fachtna Ó Drisceoil, will speak about the extraordinary story of Stradbally's "Missing Postman" in what remains one of Ireland's most notorious unsolved murder cases. The only clue to what happened was his abandoned bicycle which was found on a deserted country road. Admission is free to all events and all are welcome to attend

    Once in a blue moon. As rare as hen's teeth. A Government success. Each of those three sentences are as unusual and as rare as each other. But the last one seems to be about to take place. The Government has announced that it plans to give each child in the State a second year of free pre-school.
