Pop Picnic Tickets Available @ The Forum

Already Ireland's – and fast becoming Europe's – most famous twins, JEDWARD are promising to take Tramore by storm this summer when they headline 'Pop Picnic'. The Sunday, June 3rd, gig will be the supercharged siblings' first live performance after their eagerly-awaited Eurovision mission in Baku, with thousands of kids and parents looking forward to seeing the Grimes brothers do their inimitable thing, live at Tramore Racecourse.

And the dynamic duo are really excited about coming to Tramore, having spent some holiday time in the seaside resort as kids. But first there's a certain assignment in Azerbaijan to be getting on with. "Last year people outside of Ireland and the UK didn't really know us. But we've been busy touring in Germany, Sweden and Estonia and lots of other places, so this time around it's all about Jedward," says John. Needless to say the lads are relishing the attention – but they're patriotic about things too. "We're so proud to be representing Ireland – but we want 12 points from everybody! Whatever happens, we're going to come home as winners," John adds. Edward is also enthusiastic about the rest of the summer. "We love summer festivals and Pop Picnic promises to be a special one, with some great charities and groups also benefiting. Rest assured that we will be pulling out all the stops to make it a memorable day for all our fans."

The hyperactive pair were written off as a flash in the pan. But they've since carved out a hugely successful career on stage and screen. As to the secret of their success, John puts it down to being original: "We came onto the show and we were just ourselves, just John and Edward, totally different to anything that's ever been on these shows. We used the stage to its full potential and we did things that had never been done on the show before… You should never want to be the next anything. I think that's why me and Edward got so far, because we were just ourselves. We don't like to overthink things... and we try to always focus on the positive." Edward enthuses: "We always give a really big performance. That's what our fans like about us… some people performing on stage are just singing the lyrics. But me and John go beyond it… It's really spontaneous. We're really looking forward to giving people in Tramore the whole Jedward experience."

Paul Jackman of Tramore Tourism says "it's going to be an event with a few differences. The emphasis is on family-friendly fun and healthy eating, rather than the traditional concert fare. With local causes to receive a portion of the proceeds, tickets at €25 (+ service charge) are available now at Next Door (Forum Waterford), 051 871111 or http://www.forumwaterford.com

  • A Government Success

Once in a blue moon. As rare as hen's teeth. A Government success. Each of those three sentences are as unusual and as rare as each other. But the last one seems to be about to take place. The Government has announced that it plans to give each child in the State a second year of free pre-school. It might not sound like earth shattering news but if it does happen then it could be one of the most significant things that this Government has done since it took office. Any money that is given over to education is a …
