The Saw Doctors, who have just returned from a six week Coast to Coast Tour of the US and Canada, including sellout concerts in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, will play The Forum Waterford on Saturday May 5, with tickets currently on sale from the venue website.
Last December, The Saw Doctors had a runaway Irish hit with their cover of Petula Clark's classic pop single, Downtown, topping the iTunes Chart and reaching Number Two in the official Christmas Chart, beaten only by X Factor's Little Mix. Petula Clark joined the Galway band in a London studio to re-record Downtown and performed with The Saw Doctors on the Downtown video which to date has been seen by 150,000 viewers on YouTube.
At the Forum show on Saturday 5 May, The Saw Doctors will play all their Irish hit songs from the past twenty years including N17, To Win Just Once, Hay Wrap, Clare Island and I Useta Lover, as well as new songs from their recent studio album, The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors which TV star and comedian Peter Kay launched in Dublin last year.
Fronted by Tuam songwriters, Davy Carton and Leo Moran, The Saw Doctors entered the record books back in September 1990 when their second single I Useta Lover spent nine weeks at No.1 in the Irish Charts, becoming Ireland's best selling single of all time.
The Saw Doctors followed up with another No. 1 hit, N17, and a chart topping album, If This Is Rock & Roll, I Want My Old Job Back, which has sold over half a million copies since its release in May 1991.
After winning the Meteor Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, The Saw Doctors rocketed to Number One in Ireland with their rambunctious cover of The Sugababes "About You Now", restoring them to their rightful place as Ireland's best-loved good-time band. In October 2009, Universal Music released the bands Best Of collection "To Win Just Once..The Best of The Saw Doctors" which went on to achieve Platinum Status in Ireland. The Saw Doctors have achieved eighteen Top 30 Singles and four Number One hits since their formation in 1986.
Over the past two Summers, The Saw Doctors have played all the major music festivals including Glastonbury Festival, T in the Park in Scotland, the London Feis at Finsbury Park, Oxegen and the Port Fairy Festival in Australia. The Age newspaper in Melbourne wrote that The Saw Doctors were "the most popular act at the Port Fairy Festival with their infectious songs about love, soccer and small town life".
The Saw Doctors lineup includes former Waterboy Anthony Thistlethwaite on Bass Guitar and Saxophone, new drummer Rickie O'Neill, Kevin Duffy on Keyboards as well as founder members Davy Carton on Vocals and Leo Moran on Guitars.
