Ham Sandwich – Bouncing Back

Wednesday, 1st February 2012

Things are on the up and up for HAM SANDWICH with their biggest Dublin headline gig to date, taking place at The Academy this month. They have also just been booked for the prestigious Benicassim Festival in the summer, following their well received sets at Electric Picnic, Indiependence and Reading Festival last summer.

They return to The Forum in Waterford on Saturday, 3rd March with some special guests (TBA) plus Bounce club til late. Tickets (€10) are on sale now at Next Door (Forum Waterford), 051 871111 and forumwaterford.com

Ham Sandwich won the "Brightest Hope" award at the Meteor Awards a couple of years ago. This was voted for by listeners of 2FM, showing the extent of the band’s fan-base all around the country, earned by fab debut album `Carry The Meek`. Their quirky take on pop music won them a wide selection of admirers including legendary Beach Boys producer Van Dyke Parks, Bono (who tried to get them to change their name) and Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan. The BIG song of the debut album "Keepsake" became an anthem at indie clubs around the country and was the highlight of the band’s past gigs at Oxegen, Glastonbury and Electric Picnic. In 2011 Ham Sandwich upped their game with 2nd album "White Fox", whose stand out track "Ants" was championed by Ray Darcy on Today FM and has been one of the biggest radio songs of the last year. Coming in at 33 and 1/3 minutes (a nice retro reference), White Fox’ s brevity was matched by a level of quality that breathes through songs such as The Naturist, Models , The Fog, In December, Animals and all the rest. In fact, there isn’t a single duff tune, which makes it that very rare thing, an album you can listen to all the way through without being tempted to press fast forward.

The Government parties as well as the main opposition party, Fianna Fail, are in favour of the Yes vote but so far little has reall …
