Theatre Royal's 'Eden' welcomes drama interns behind the scenes

The Theatre Royal has invited Waterford theatre and drama students to work as interns on their latest production Eden, by Eugene O'Brien. Students from the Red Kettle Theatre Academy have been shadowing theatre professionals in marketing, production, lighting design, sound design, acting and directing on this play.
Set up in November 2010, Red Kettle Theatre Academy is an introductory course in Theatre and Drama Studies which covers all aspects of theatre production. Twenty four participants are engaged on a daily basis in exciting activities and workshops at the academy. It is a FÁS funded course with FETAC accreditation under the guidance of FÁS and the Red Kettle Theatre Company. One of these exciting educational projects is the opportunity for students to collaborate and shadow on a professional production.
Eden, directed by Ben Barnes, is the latest production from the Theatre Royal. Barnes discovered the play while Director of the Abbey Theatre where the play had its world premiere in 2001.” Ben is now director of the Theatre Royal and is delighted to bring Eden to Waterford. Starring in Eden are Michael Power and Jenni Ledwell, two of Waterford's finest acting talents.In this celebrated play Eden, Eugene O'Brien brings to vivid life a gallery of colourful midland characters at play.
And at the heart of that world is a moving, funny and tragic portrait of the marriage of Billy and Breda and the weekend that will make or break them. From the author of RTE's Pure Mule, Eugene O'Brien's play Eden play won Best New Play at the Irish Times Theatre Awards (2001) and Best New Play for the Stewart Parker Awards then transferred to London's West End. It has been translated and performed around the world and was turned into an award-winning film in 2008.
For the Academy students the experience of interaction with professionals on a world class production is worth its weight in gold.
