Onkyo sponsored Waterford Concert Orchestra are well under way preparing for their next concert on April 27th in St John's Church, Waterford.

Onkyo, which means 'sound harmony' in Japanese, was founded in 1946 and is one of the leading names in hi-fi and home cinema. The programme for the concert is constructed on the theme of Soldiers and Pirates. Military matters are regularly topics for cinema. However long before cinema, real life events were often remembered in the music of the masters.

The first half of the concert includes music which refers to actual historical events. Beethoven's Battle Symphony commemorates the Battle of Vittoria. This will be followed by music from the film Schindler's List.

Now in its fifth year, the Japanese Film Festival aims to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and society amongst Irish citizens and to strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries. This summer Waterford Youth Arts are delighted that they have on board the esteemed director Jason Byrne to direct their summer theatre project. Jason comes to Waterford with huge experience of directing in Ireland and Canada and is closely linked to both Loose Canon Theatre Company and the Abbey Theatre. WYA's summer theatre project is an opportunity for young people aged 14 - 19 years to work with a top director and to experience first-hand a professional style show where they work fulltime (from end of July) to create a play in six weeks which is similar to the professional theatre world. The cast is open to the first 25 young people who register and costs a mere 25 euro. There are some opportunities for young people to work on the crew side of things also.

Exciting times ahead for Little Red Kettle who are getting settled in their new premises in Central Hall within the Viking Triangle. They will now be kicking off their spring/summer programme with some new programmes that may be of interest to all budding or well established young actors and artists out there.

Little Red Kettle is now taking bookings for their weekly workshops for young people in drama and acting, Big Colourdee Creative stuff and mask-making and puppetry.

Classes will be held over a course of 8 weeks beginning the week of 13th of May.
