Bealtaine Festival 2013

Numerous events are taking place across the country as part of the Bealtaine Festival 2013 and Garter Lane Cinema is no exception with a double bill on Sunday, May 19th. First up is The Glenn Miller Story, starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson at 5.30pm, followed by The Sapphires at 8pm, featuring Moone Boy, Chris O'Dowd.

The Glenn Miller Story traces Miller's rise from pit-orchestra trombone player to leader of the most successful big band of his era.

Directed by Anthony Mann and with Henry Mancini as musical director the film's musical credentials are impeccable.

Watch out for Louis Armstrong leading a jam session on Basin Street Blues in a speakeasy in Harlem, and singer Frances Langford doing Chattanooga Choo-Choo in a well-boned strapless dress

Two of Ireland' s leading professional singers Donna Roche and David Flynn will be holding a series of Vocal Performance Summer Camps in Waterford City and County this coming July and August.

David who has toured the world with The Celtic Tenors and has performed in some of the world' s most prestigious venues has teamed up with one of Ireland' s leading Soprano' s Donna Roche. Together this summer they will nurture and develop aspiring and future singers and above all create a fulfilled environment for kids and teens.

A group of prominent musicians has come together to arrange a Gala Tribute Night to the famous and highly respected singer/guitarist, Don Duggan.

The Gala Tribute Night is being organised by Liam Dwyer and former Miami bassist, Stephen Travers, and it will take place in The Carraig Hotel, Carrick-on-Suir on Sunday, August 4th, the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Tickets are now available at €10 from John Palmer Music, Georges St. and The Carraig Hotel, Carrick-on-Suir.

Though retired for some years, Don will be remembered fondly for a lifetime of entertaining people from the showband era right through the halycon days of cabaret.

In 1968, Don Duggan and The Savoy were the first band in this country to record a Bob Dylan song, ' I' ll Be Your Baby Tonight' . It was very successful and is still a radio favourite.

The Waterford Male Voice Choir (WMVC) have been singing in unison with their musical director Niall Crowley for 12 years. This May they will take a departure from their usual end of season concert to a Gala night of Opera which they look forward to sharing with their loyalfriends on the evening.

The WMVC now one of the most prestigious male voice choirs in the South East has grown from a group of friends who initially met to share their love of music.

This year' s Gala "A Night at the Opera" sees the choir join with the WIT Symphony Orchestra also under the direction of Niall. The evening will also include "The Angelus Chorus" by Waterford composer William Vincent Wallace.

For the evening the choir will be joined by the well respected Waterford choirs; Voci and the Edmund Rice Choral & Music

The Coastguard station, Tramore is the perfect venue for the Blian na Gaeilge Irish traditional music concert which will take place on Friday May 24th, 2013 at 7:30pm. The concert is organised by the musicians who attend the weekly Irish traditional music classes at the CBS in Tramore.
