Shortlist announced for Waterford Business Awards

Thirty-three of Waterford’s top businesses have been shortlisted for the third annual Waterford Business Awards, organised by Waterford Chamber and media partners WLRfm.

The gala awards ceremony will take place on Friday, March 3rd in Faithlegg House Hotel & Golf Resort, where the selected businesses will be celebrated for their extraordinary contribution to the economic life of Waterford.

Speaking about the awards, Waterford Chamber President Laurent Borla said, “This is the third year of the Waterford Business Awards and the calibre of entrants continues to grow each year. We are delighted to be able to recognise the outstanding work that is going on in Waterford City and County and to laud and encourage our business providers as they continue to make Waterford a great place to live, work and do business. We would like to thank our sponsors for their continued support and look forward to a great night of celebration on March 3rd in Faithlegg House Hotel & Golf Resort.”

Commenting on the decision making process Frank O’Regan, Chairperson of the Judging Panel, said, “We are now into our third year of judging the Waterford Business Awards and I think it’s fair to say it’s not getting any easier! We were so impressed by the standard of applications this year. There have been many, many debates around the judging table and I can honestly say it was a very tough decision making process. We added an additional category this year and we also have a Special Recognition Award which will be announced on the night. Sadly, it is not possible to shortlist everybody but having reviewed each application, I can confidently say the future is bright for business in Waterford.”

The shortlisted businesses were nominated by the public and also through self-nomination for the eleven categories. An independent judging panel, including Bill Halley, Liam Moran, Faithlegg House Hotel; Lena Murphy, WLRfm; John Noonan, Flahavans; Louise Grubb, Q1 Scientific; Tina Darrer, Dooley’s Hotel, TV Honan, Spraoi and Noel Kelly, NYPRO, decided upon the finalist shortlist after a rigorous judging analysis of each application.

Three businesses have been shortlisted for each of the eleven categories and the winners of those categories will then go head to head in the hope of claiming the Overall Waterford Business of the Year, sponsored by Waterford City & County Council. A Special Recognition Award, sponsored by Dawn Meats, will also be presented to an individual chosen by the judging panel and will only be revealed on the night.

Over the last decade, there has hardly been a time when the man hasn't been out of the headlines for one reason or another. But it is his role as Taoiseach which has cemented his position in Irish history.Of course such an anniversary didn't go past uncommented and he was given a rough ride in the Dail when the subject came up. As mu …
