Waterford Toastmasters rebrands as Waterford Communicators
Wednesday, 24th August 2011

Waterford Toastmasters, the organisation for people who want to learn about public speaking, has decided to change its name to Waterford Communicators. Waterford Communicators decided on the name change because it wants to get a simple message across – that communicating with confidence is for everyone.
This is a time of year when people think about evening classes they'd like to take or new skills they'd like to learn. Waterford Communicators has a 10-step programme that will give you the tools to speak confidently to a group and get your message across, whether it's to a committee, a crowd at a wedding, or a group of business people.
Presentation skills are particularly important in a recession, as people return to college to study, or think of ways to upskill so they'll have a stronger CV to show employers. After completing the 10-step programme, you'll be given a Competent Communicator certificate and pin as proof of your new-found communications skills. As well as that, we run competitions and if you win our club competitions, you'll have a chance to compete at county and regional level.
And Waterford Communicators is offering you the chance to learn these valuable skills at recession busting prices. The yearly membership fee is just €80, or €50 for students and unwaged. That comes to around €4 per meeting – the price of a pint or a sandwich.
Speaking in public, or even just walking into a roomful of strangers, can be nervewracking. But Waterford Communicators aims to create a warm, relaxed environment for its meetings, where people will feel comfortable speaking and nerves will soon melt away. And if it's your first time and you're a little shy, one of the members will meet you beforehand and bring you to the meeting room. You'll be able to ease yourself in gently – you'won't have to speak until you're ready. And you can practise your communication skills by doing smaller jobs until you're ready to give your first speech.
The membership of Waterford Communicators is drawn from all corners of society – students wanting to improve their presentation skills, people who are giving a best man speech at a wedding, or people who need to speak well as part of their job, or their involvement with a voluntary organisation.
Why not come to our first meeting on Monday September 12th at 8pm in the Tower Hotel and take the first step towards learning a valuable skill that will improve your life.

Not so GR8 G8With world attention on Fermanagh as the meeting place of the latest G8 Summit it is no wonder that locals are basking in the reflected spotlight. We have all been told, if we haven't already experienced at first hand, the beauty of the location. We know about the exclusiveness of the hotels that the various leaders are going to be staying as well as some of their security detail. We know about the menus from which they will be choosing from. There is little about summit meeting that the …
