Season Finale at Blacksod Triathlon
The final Olympic distance race and one of the final races of the season took place in Belmullet, Co. Mayo recently with 5 members of the club travelling the long distance to take part. The 1500m sea swim took place in the Atlantic Ocean which was lovely and calm on the day. The cycle was a little longer than usual at 43k and included a detour off the out and back course up a tough sharp climb which seemed to be included in the race just for the sake of it as the returning cycle did not bring them back up the same hill. This hill really separated the men from the boys and there were people looking for easier gears on the bike that were not there. The 10k run was very technical and included some off road sections along the sand dunes. This was the 1st time that all 5 participating club member were attempting this distance so there were a few frayed nerves.

Busy start to new season
Last Saturday saw Wildcat's first series of underage home games for the 2009-10 season. It was a busy afternoon with 4 teams - U14, U15, U16 and U18 all playing host to Glanmire. First up at 2 o'clock were the U16s. Wildcats were fastest out of the blocks building up a 13-6 lead in the first quarter, thanks to some fine baskets by Emma Begadon. At half-time Wildcats maintained their lead and with Rachel Taheny leading the way in the 3rd quarter the result was put beyond doubt. Wildcats finished comfortable winners on a scoreline of 39-22.

The second game saw the U14 team seeking revenge for an away defeat to the same opposition on the opening game of the season two weeks ago. Again Wildcats got off to a good start leading 14-9 at the end of the first half thanks to some good work by Dana Aspell under the baskets. Glanmire fought back to level the match in the final quart...

John O'Meara Diving Competition
This Competition was held in the Guillamene Cove last Sunday 4th Oct. in excellent diving conditions. It proved to be a very competitive event as there was some excellent dives and little between the competitors.

Winner of the Annual John O'Meara Cup :- 1st. Place Leonardo Caparelli; 2nd Place Rory Hunt; 3rd Place Chris Purnell.

The winner has participated in this competition each year since its commencement & has been in the placing on each occasion. But on Sunday his quality of dives made him a very deserving winner.

We wish to thank the O'Meara family for supporting this event and also Kevin Wilmot for his contribution to its success for his judging ,which is always of the highest standard.

City League U-13 Hurling Final

De La Salle 4-4 Ballygunner 1-5
Well done to our U-13 hurlers who captured this title for the first time since 2002 when they defeated Ballygunner in a thoroughly entertaining final in Roanmore last Sunday. This was another very good performance by our lads and it needed to be against a Ballygunner side who gave it everything on the day but found U-11 goalkeeper Lee Wall in top form behind a resolute defence. Lining out without the injured James Grogan and the unavailable Jack Maher, great credit must go to regular centre back Jack McCarthy who picked up an injury in the semi final but played at corner forward and whose goal six minutes from the end sealed the game.

Ballygunner opened the scoring with a point from a free in the second minute. Two minutes later a great run by Dean O'Halloran saw him fouled and he got ...

Next Match
The Blues left two points behind them at Ballybofey at the weekend, which makes the Shelbourne match even more crucial as the season builds to its climax. By the time many people are reading this the game will have been played, so we can only hope that the result went our way and things have tightened up at the top once more. That leaves Monaghan United next Friday (Oct 9th, KO 7.45pm), another crucial match as they all are at this late stage. Waterford struggled in vain to get the better of the Ulstermen as they were held scoreless at Kingspan Century Park in July, but Monaghan's last visit to the RSC, earlier in the season, is not one they will look back on with any fondness, as they were trounced 6-0, Graham Cummins weighing in with four. The game is being played on Friday night to avoid a clash with Ireland's crucial qualifier against Italy the next evening.

No real joy in Donegal
Finn Harps 1 - 1 Waterford United

Waterford United appeared to be on their way to a vital away victory in Ballybofey on Saturday night last but they had to be content with a point following the 90 minutes of play at a damp and rather cold Finn Park. Very few chances were created during the opening 45 minutes and it came as no surprise when both teams went into the dressing room at half time level.

Waterford upped their performance during the opening minutes of the second half and it looked good for the Blues when Vinny Sullivan headed them in front after 48 minutes - he peeled away from two defenders to head the visitors in front. However it went wrong just before the half hour mark when the hosts equalised from a set piece. Michael Funston sent in a free kick from the left, half way inside the Waterford half of the pitch. Two Waterford def...

Under 13s continue winning ways
Our U-13 side continued their winning run in the U-13 league after they defeated Southend United on Saturday afternoon last but it wasn't the most comprehensive performance our lads however, the most important was picking up all three points.

Two goals from Danny Ryan and one each from Ger Halloran, Jordan McDonald, Johnny Makumbu and Michael McDonagh helped us to a good win against a battling Southend United side and also well done to Eric Crowley, who played between the sticks for this game.

Our next game is away to Stradbally on Saturday, October 17, at 11.45am.

Under 15s
After falling a goal behind against Railway Athletic, our U-15 side came back to grab a point away from home following a hard fought encounter that also saw goalkeeper Declan Doyle continue his good recent run of form when he saved a penalty to de...

Under 11s work hard Under 11 League
Villa A 3 - 0 Bohemians A
This was a highy entertaining game with good football played by both teams. In the first half we found ourselves doing a lot of defending and we conceded three goals. We got on top of things in the second half and pressed hard for a goal that never came. We can take pride in the fact that we worked hard for the full sixty minutes, we kept our shape and we played good football from the start to the final whistle. Patrick Queally at center back and Ben Fitzgerald in center midfield played particularly well. While the joint "Man of the Match" award went to Miki Moran-Hearne and Billy Nolan. Miki was inspirational in midfield and most of our attacks came from him down the right wing. Billy was as strong as ever in central defence and gave us good distribution from the back.

Team: Ciaran Brady, K...
