A Message T-You Rudy!
A Message T-You Rudy!

Neville Staple had to cancel his highly anticipated show at Electric Avenue at the end of December due to the death of his mother the day before the gig. Electric Avenue managed to pull a rabbit from the hat and put on a free show with the wonderful Ska Express instead, so as not to ruin the BIG Christmas night out for Waterford's many Rude Boys & Girls. The Ska Legend promised to come back as soon as he could and true to his word announced this week that the show will now go ahead on Friday 13 February. Tickets bought for the original show remain valid for the new date and there are further tickets available now at BPM Records and Ticketmaster. Many people's vote for the Best Gig of 2008 at Electric Avenue was Neville Staple's 2 hour live show of music by The Specials and other ska hits. Neville and his band loved the venue and the reaction of the hardcore Waterford ska heads, so are delighted to be back again in February. And...

David - Doherty to play Forum Waterford
David - Doherty to play Forum Waterford

David O'Doherty who plays Forum Waterford on Saturday January 31st was born in Dublin at the end of 1975. He wanted to become a professional cyclist, then a professional jazz musician, but an almost complete lack of talent in these areas meant that he became a professional telemarketer, ringing up strangers to ask them to rate things out of ten.

Then in 1998 he did his first open spot at the now defunct Norseman Comedy Club in Dublin's unfortunate Temple Bar district. In 1999 he travelled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time and was lucky enough to win the Channel 4 so You Think You're Funny? competition and with it a huge cardboard cheque with £1500 written on it. Somebody told him it was legal tender, so he took it into a bank which made the cashier almost weep with laughter. That's the main thing he remembers about that.

In 2000 he wrote a book for children, Ronan Long Gets it Wrong that Ma...

Compulsion - A Look Back On \'08
Compulsion - A Look Back On '08

As this is the first issue of the new year I feel we should have a little look back on '08.

Bands such as Elbow, with their much acclaimed album 'The Seldom Seen Kid', boasting tracks such as 'Grounds For Divorce' and 'The Bones Of You', have finally made the big break they deserve. On first hearing them I had no interest but after sitting down and listening to the album from start to finish, I was hit by their mix of country and rock'n'roll sound. That's not to say that they are a hodown band, just that they have a lot going on with their very individual sound.

also making the big break are The Kills (below), a two piece, indie rock band. The sound of Mosshart's raunchy voice, Hince's hard guitar and an apple mac thrown in for good measure, create one of the most distinctive sounds to be heard in quite some time. After seeing them on Jonathan Ross' show, I was blown away and had their album dowloaded ten mi...
