Des Bishop returns to Forum Waterford
Des Bishop returns to Forum Waterford

des.jpg Following on from the hugely successful sell-out 'FITTING IN' tour, enjoyed by over 100,000 comedy fans across the country, Des Bishop is back at Forum Waterford on Friday and Saturday, June 13th and 14th with a totally original and inspired new stand-up show.

'TONGUES' deals with an entirely new challenge for Des, where he took the ultimate step towards Irishness by moving to the Gaeltacht to learn his mother tongue. Never one for half measures, Des moved to Connemara in spring 2007, to embrace what so many Irish people have avoided, our own native tongue. Des explores the lighter side of life learning to speak Irish in Connemara, something which has strong memories for many Irish people. Describing his attempts to grasp the language, Des bring...

The Aftermath Electric Avenue
The Aftermath Electric Avenue

Waterford, Friday April 25

Having earned their musical stripes working the UK and Ireland touring circuit, picking up friends and fans along the way and with three Top 20 singles under their independent belts, The Aftermath present their debut album Friendlier Up Here releasing April 25th 2008 on Live Transmission Records.

With themes that bound from love through death, sex and call centres, bad Hollywood remakes and Delia Smith cookery books, Friendlier Up Here is an album borne of marathon Woody Allen movie sessions and daydreaming to a soundtrack of Bowie, Beatles, Roxy Music, The Smiths and Serge Gainsbourg. The lead single, Are You Not Wanting Me Yet? is a glam rock tale of unrequited love.

Those familiar with The Aftermath's earlier releases will recognise the hit single 'One is Fun', a catchy Bowie-inspired disco song, which debuted at No 11 on the Irish charts on release. Other st...

Foy Vance On The Rise
Foy Vance On The Rise
'An unbelievable voice... in the premier league of British songwriters' - The Sunday Time

'The missing link between Richie Havens and Stevie Wonder' - The Independent

'Foy's a giant' - Pete Townsend

'One of the most soulful and powerful singers and writers I've ever heard' - Bonnie Raitt

These are just some of the comments made recently about Ireland's best kept secret, the hugely talented Foy Vance. Usual tags such as 'singer-songwriter', 'folk-soul' and 'troubadour' are perceived with a considerable amount of cynicism these days, but anyone with a discerning ear and trust in their own taste should be able to spot who's the real deal and who's not. Leaving tags aside, Foy Vance operates in his own parallel universe. His music is an evolving journey, a constant search for artistic expression captured in the moment, operating well away from industry standards. Sur...

Compulsion - Rotate Present Johnny Fiasco
Compulsion - Rotate Present Johnny Fiasco

ROTATE are pretty chuffed with themselves, bringing Johnny Fiasco in for his Irish debut at Waterford's Forum on the May Bank Holiday Sunday. Fiasco's style is enviable, as the beats are always booming and the vibe deep, but his infectuous (not to mention expansive) take on house continually breathes new life into the sound.—Urb Magazine, 2003

Legends are made of dreams, so they say…In Johnny Fiasco's case, he is a legend whose ever-evolving house music insight promises to be enduring—and for many, that's a dream come true. The Chicago-born native was fortunate to have the Windy City as a backdrop at a fantastically seminal time for house music in the late '80s. Since then the pioneering Fiasco continues to DJ, produce and remix his one true love—house. "My category is house music. If someone asks me what I play: 'It is house.' It's techy, it's hard, it's disco, it's vocally, and it's all of the...

Having played host to all the top acts from the Irish alternative rock scene over the last year, Electric Avenue announce it's first visitors from across the large pond as Two Gallants, the darlings of the US underground alternative/folk scene play a gig on Thursday 22nd May. The San Franciscan duo are coming to Dublin as special guests of The National for 3 sold out shows at The Olympia, and they have decided to be adventurous and check out a couple of other places in Ireland. Tickets are on sale now at just €10 in Electric Avenue, BPM Records and through Ticketmaster.

Two Gallants are made up of Adam Stephens on guitar, harmonica and vocals and Tyson Vogel on drums and vocals. They started gigging around San Francisco as Two Gallants in 2002 when both were twenty, although the two had been mak...
