Finbar Furey returns to Forum

Finbar Furey, an individual who considers Dunmore East his home away from home and was one of the highlights of the fundraising night in aid of the Dunmore East Trawler Tragedy, takes his "No Farewells, No Goodbyes" tour to Forum, Waterford on Friday November 23rd for a show of traditional Irish song at its best.

furey.jpg

Finbar was born in Dublin's inner city; the Furey family were travelling people who settled in Claddagh Road, Ballyfermot. Life was happy but beset with hardship. It left its mark: "I like people who had a tough growing up," he says, "They know about life."

Finbar started playing music at a young age and it wasn't long before music totally dominated his life. In the early 60's, he ...

Last chance to seea \
Last chance to seea "Special" Duke

As disclosed by Duke Special during his interview with Rob O'Connor on Beat102103 last weekend, he is disappearing from view after his extensive current Irish tour and UK arena tour (supporting Crowded House), so his intimate gig at Electric Avenue next Monday 15th October, will be your last chance to see the Duke live for over a year, when he hopes to be back with a new album to build on the massive success of current CD "Songs From The Deep Forest".

Duke Special is definitely one of a kind, a unique and talented young Belfast man whose bruised romanticism and soft Northern tinged vocals are at sharp juxtaposition with his wild dreadlocks, smudged eyeliner and unfeasibly wide trousers. His album "Songs From The Deep Forest" which included 2 BIG singles, "Last Night I Nearly Died" and "Freewheel", was universally acclaimed by the music press and has sold extremely well a...

Limerick Breaks OUT!
Limerick Breaks OUT!

breakout.jpgNationwide Tour

Electric Avenue – Thursday 11 October

Following the launch of their second album last week, Limerick band The Fewer The Better (pictured below) head out on a nationwide tour called "Limerick Breaks Out", with support from 2 other Limerick bands We Should Be Dead and Walter Mitty and The Realists. Why? Because they like travelling in cars with drum kits and geetars that's why! But this tour is a bit special, as the lads think Limerick music and Limerick bands deserve more attention, (and not the kind of attention that Limerick usually gets in the press either...). The tour hits Waterford's rock and roll mecca, Electric Avenue, this Thursday 11 October with doors a...

Top Tribute Acts @ Electric Avenue
Top Tribute Acts @ Electric Avenue

One of the highlights of the first year of gigs at Electric Avenue was a 2 hour show by Pixies tribute band "Doolittle" a couple of months ago. It demonstrated that when the band being paid tribute to is one of the all-time rock greats and it is being done by people who are huge fans and have dedicated themselves to re-creating a gig by their heroes, it can really be very nearly just as good as the real thing. Two more great tribute acts are on their way to the Avenue over the coming weeks with the Australian Pearl Jam playing on Friday 19th October and the Stone Roses Experience on Friday 26th October.

The Australian Pearl Jam
The Australian Pearl Jam

Our friends from down under have really set the standards for rock tribute shows. The Australian Pink Floyd and Australian Doors have progressed to playing arenas around the world and now the Australian Pearl Jam are on a similar rise. Their show has been highly recommended by none other than Eddie Vedder himself, who has even guested with the lads at some after-show parties in Australia. They have made several successful tours of Europe and have sold out every show they have played in Ireland so far. They are looking forward to their South East debut and with a 2 hour show comprised of the best songs from the band's 16 year history (Alive, Animal, Better Man, Black, Daughter, Even Flow, Jeremy, Porch, Rear View Mirror and many more) they are sure to rock the Avenue to its foundations. Support on the night comes from young Irish band Kopek who's sound is also hugely influenced by P...

The Stone Roses Experience
The Stone Roses Experience

The Stone Roses Experience are regarded as the most precise and inspiring Stone Roses tribute band, and performing to sell out crowds is something these four lads from Scotland are no stranger to. The lads have also had the amazing compliment and services of none other than original Stone Roses bass maestro Gary "Mani" Mounfield, whom on three occasions played Roses classic She Bangs The Drums alongside the band to ecstatic Irish audiences. The four members of the Roses Experience have also played together at Ireland's major music festival Witnness/Oxegen three times in a row with a combined audience of 25,000 people and at Scotland's T In The Park to a staggering 10,000, a first for any tribute band, which was later described in the music press as "Quite simply, brilliant". The songs selected for their 2 hour live show span from the early Roses classics like Sally Cinnamon, through...
